The status on 2.1 leak is still kind of at square one. People are looking for exploits but nothing's been found, and no way to revert to 1.5 has been found.

The status on the 2.1 leak rooted rom update from the original 2.1 root rom is still being worked on. Toolbox isn't working, which is causing wifi to not work (we think). So still in progress. Might be done later today, but might not, we're having issues getting it working.

Jcase did post a guide on reverting back to 1.5 over at XDA. You can give it a shot if you'd like:

Tempting if I had the money. :D

Status update on 2.1L root rom: Everything is working except wifi now...

(once again, this is still for the 1.5 -> root people, not the original 2.1L people)

Just so ya'll know, I'm putting my phone on the line to get this working. The rom cook thinks it might be an issue with the radio version on the rom we're using, and we're going to try updating the radio on my phone. If it doesn't work, it could potentially brick my phone beyond recovery.

:)

Wish me luck.

Man you guys are good.

So my phone started randomly rebooting when I'd wake it with the end key (running 2.1 leak since March 3rd). Called VZW customer service and they're shipping me a new phone. Should be here tomorrow (with 1.5). I don't mean to rub it in...but could the timing be any better.

Wifi isn't fixed yet. Getting the DHCP client working is part of wifi. We're flashing a new rom now, hopefully it'll work.

New ROM is working! Uploading it now.

Check my Guide thread in 10 minutes for the URL. It'll be the one in section III.

For all you working on the downgrade or root of the leaked 2.1, I'm willing to do some testing for you guys. Everyone has put in so much work to get where we are now, I figured I might as well offer some help if it is needed. Send me a PM if your interested. Thanks again to the "Eris Root Crew".

Ok got the updated how to for rooting, what to do after you root and how to install our cooked rom Happy Wednesday to everyone

ok, grid's recovery.zip has the old image in it. I downloaded the new one, flashed it to the recovery partition and flashed the new rom and it's working great. build 2.26.605.2 CL134869 (the original leak but with root).

Edit: It looks like ADB won't connect now. It won't load the drivers when I connect my phone

Edit 2: I have it kinda working. Try this android_winusb.inf (goes in sdk folder under usb_driver) if you can't get the driver to install after flashing. It won't look pretty but it works for now

Will the current ROM (rev. 3) install on a 2.1 leak? In order to change the OS on a 2.1 leaked phone, does the build have to be equal to or higher than the current version on the phone?

If you had clicked on the link 2 posts above and read the first paragraph you will find your answer:

Installing Amon Ra's Image

Thanks to grdlock for this guide.
This guide will walk you through the process of getting your phone up-to-date with the latest rooted rom. The current rooted rom is based on the 2.1 leak kernel. Unfortunately, there is still no solution if you installed the original 2.1 leak.

This guide is only for those who are running either Android 1.5, or who are running the original rooted 2.1 rom.

Would anyone mind talking to me over the phone to try to walk me through root? Not great with written instructions. It would be eternally greatfull

Can't find the root folder on the SD card, is this something I need to create? And is The file I put into that folder the same as the leaked 2.1 file?

By root folder on sdcard, root folder means the main directory on the sdcard, not inside any subfolders.

What folder OS the main directory one, sorry still very much a noob.

I have a question for you, If you are not very technical in understanding what you are doing....then what would be the reason for rooting your phone? Are you skilled in Linux? Not trying to be mean at all, Just want to make sure you are doing something you can handle. I mean I am pretty skilled at this stuff and still don't want to root until I know there is a reason for me to do it. One reason would be to use my phone as a wireless hot spot. Even though root is here I still wouldn't do it unless I knew for sure that I could do that.

To Answer your question, when you hook your phone up to your computer and then open the window, that is the root directory of your SD card.

It's cool I knew the question was going to be asked sooner of later. I'm building my phone to run xbox live, but I need root to do it. Its not that I'm not very techy but I learn better by doing than reading, and I've never delved this deep onto a cellphone, just want to do it right the first time.

Are you going from 1.5-2.1 root? There is a forum over at XDA that has step by step walk through.

[Walkthrough] From stock (1.5) to rooted 2.1 - xda-developers

Could be of some help to ya ;)
