Tonight my phone packed up. Black screen and cant restart it. It was ok earlier as sent some texts.

Tried holding power button and hard restarting but nothing. Had the phone since october with no problem.

Tried connecting to kies but nothing.

Any ideas apart from returning it?

Whenever I see a post like that about any device, I begin to wonder about what is in there; what apps/widgets/configuration etc. Conflicts can cause strange behavior, especially if those conflicts involve two or more programs trying for resources at the same instant, and a loop developing.

Have you tried getting into the recovery menu for a cache wipe or a factory data reset?:

- phone powered down

- hold volume up + home button + power key

- wait past the white "galaxy..." logo for the Android robot

- immediately release all three keys

- use the volume down key to navigate to "wipe cache"

- press power

- "reboot" will then be highlighted as the default choice

- hit the power button to reboot

- if not successful at the reboot, do it all again but this time navigate to "factory data reset" and hit power.

yep tried that nothing.
I havent installed anything or used any apps out of the norm.

Mine did this two time already to me. One today and the other one was 2 weeks ago.
Had to pull battery and wait 2 min and put battery back in, now working fine. But don't know why this is happening.

I'd never keep a device that died on me like that, after I'd tried a factory data reset.. still died?

Time to return the device for refund or exchange. I'm hoping you purchased it from a reputable carrier outlet or other store (Best Buy, etc).

well I've left it on charge overnight but still it wont start. There is a faint red light that flashes every few seconds though?

My Galaxy Note 2 is doing the exact same thing and nomatter what i do it won't turn back on so because of that i can't get it to boot into download mode or to boot into recovery mode. Also because it won't turn on it's not picked up by my pc when connected to it by usb.

My phone is rooted but is still on the stock rom as i've not installed any roms onto it and it looks like i'm not going to be able to unroot it because i can't get it to power on.

I want to take it back to the store i bought it from as i've only had it for 2 months and from what i've read about the problem people are calling it an SDS (Sudden Death Syndrome) fault and it has nothing to do with being rooted as the same problem is affecting people that have not rooted their galaxy note 2, but what i need to know is where i stand with my rights when i take it back. Am i eligible to get a replacement there and then, can i ask for a full refund or will i have to agree to having it sent off for repair.

Another problem i've had with my galaxy note 2 is that i've had to charge it every day since i got it even before i rooted it as i only rooted it last week, i don't know if this was a sign that the phone was faulty from the moment i bought it but i thought i'd just mention it to see what you guys think.

If anyone can help me with this i will greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

To the OP - could it be a battery or charger problem? Have you tried a different charger? If your battery can't hold a charge, or if your charger is in fact not charging your battery it would seem dead even though you think you're charging it.

it said 40% 30 mins before it died and it ran ok all day - 40% is about what it would be each evening. Only ever got just about a full day from it. Tried charging at work but no joy. I think its SDS. I spoke to sammy and they said return it. Clove thought it might have been a sudden hardware failure. I mentioned the previous issue with similar samsung devices. They said it was fixed via an update?!?

I do find it somewhat disappointing spend

There are a couple of more things you can try.

1) Pull the battery and let the unit sit overnight. Then insert the battery and see if it will come up.
2) Pull the battery, then put it back in whilst holding the keys described in the prior post.

shouldnt really need to ! I've sent it back anyway. If its done this once its poorly in my mind.

Well my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has been sent back for repair today but the guy in the O2 shop said that if it can't be fixed they will just send me a refurbished one which i think is totally unfair since my phone is only 2 months old and i paid

^^ so agree although a refurb will be like new. Mine has a small mark on the screen so I'll know if I get back another!

Well i've just recieved a text message stating my galaxy note 2 is on its way back to me by courier but it doesn't say if the phone has been fixed, not fixed or replaced so just got to keep my fingers crossed that its all sorted.

that was quick! Whos repaired yours? Mine went back to Anovo on 5th

I took mine back to the O2 shop where i bought it from and they sent it away so i'd have thought it either went to O2 or Samsung, i'm not sure how they go about their repairs.

This is what it states when i track my repair online.

Job Fault: No Power
Job Status: On it's way back
Repair Outcome: Warranty Exchange

Just got to see now if they have sent me a new phone or a refurbished phone.

my note 2 is on its way back having received new internal memory which was corrupt and he mentioned a repair to the motherboard.....likely a new one as I can't imagine there is much to repair on it!

Will let you know what version I receive back and whether they are adding the latest 4.1.2....

what did you do to make it pack up. Sounds like it might have got wet?

absolutely nothing. I used it at 7pm to send a text and 30 mins later it was dead but with very faint red light flashing.

I used Handcent SMS as usual, nothing had been downloaded for weeks. Nothing unusual was done. it hadnt been dropped (ever), got wet or humid.

Was it from Clove mate? If so what's the turn around time for future reference?

Clove yes. They said I could have sent it to them (but they'd have had to send it to the Samsung repair centre in Norwich - Anovo), so to save time I just sent it straight to Anovo. I posted it last Tuesday and should have got it back yesterday (monday) but they sent it to home whereas I asked for it to be sent to work. Should be here today...

well it looks like I received a new device as a scratch on the screen has gone! No fluff inside or anything. They installed latest fw etc (4.1.1 xxalj2) and battery life is amazing now! It was 40% by time I got home late afternoon before - last 2 days have been 70%+!

Had a problem with a google process error but that cleared following some instructions online.

Had been considering changing the device to another make but happy days now.

Nice one, glad it's sorted, just shows you that there could be a lot of phones out there with issues that people don't realise and think the phone is just pants!
Mine has been great from day one so no regrets from me at all.
