Dear Eris, I love when you damage my SD card..

I love how when i randomly decide to reboot my phone after a few days, for no reason out of the blue today tells me my SD card is damaged :) AWESOME.

this happened once before a few months back. what the hell, eris? why are you doing this? anyone got an ideas?
 
Are you using the original SD card, or have you put a new one in? As the previous poster said, a reformat would be good.

Well, SD cards are well-known fragile little things; it is not uncommon for them to fail, some even in an "infant mortality" way (soon after purchase).

The first thing I do is head to the store and grab a nice, new one at medium capacity for the device I just bought.. brand name, reliable as I can find.

Formatting the card, as others are telling you, could resolve your issue, but maybe not if the card has become defective, which they can do.

also guys, i understanding formatting it would make it better...but the point is, i had 28349823 pics, music etc. then out of nowhere, the phone says "damaged SD card." yeah, formatting it fixed it....but yeah i just lost EVERYTHING i had on there...

and idk how it would've become defective....it's just been sitting in there gathering information. also, when i tried to copy files back to it, i would get an error in windows, cyclic redundancy error. googled it, they say it could be a messed up SD card..but the thing is like a year old, not even, and the card itself still stores data that the phone sends it, like pictures or sounds or videos...so that cant be corrupt then..

This is not true at all. Read and write use a lot of different circuitry in the sdcard. Also - how are you reading the card - through the phone or an external card reader?
 
My situation is somewhat similar - a few weeks back I performed a Droid software "upgrade" and ever since then the phone has not recognized the SD card, for example when I try to use the camera, I get a message telling me to install an SD card. Also, I get constant notifications that my SD card is blank and needs to be formatted. I've tried formatting and the phone does nothing. I've tried every piece of advice I can find on every forum I can find, but still nothing.

I finally went to the Verizon Store. I was told my SD card is corrupted and that I'd need a new card which I'm not happy about for a few reasons. 1) Replacing anything on a phone that I've had for under 2 months is just plain frustrating. 2) Verizon doesn't warranty the SD cards, so that's more money out of my pocket. 3) There's no way to tell what caused the corruption, so I may end up going through this again and again and again and again...grrrr.

So, it looks like Frisco finally had the answer to my problem.
 
Had a similar issue this week but the SD card is a cheap one that I bought on ebay. Its a 16 gb and says Sandisk on it but I don't believe it, it came from China and cost $15, free shipping. Luckily I had backed up my disk to my PC a few days ago while it was in a cradle I bought. I will just reformat it and re-insert, reload files. Another option is Lookout Mobile Security which has a backup function on the free version, not sure if it works for all files on a card.
 
My Sandisk 8GB microSD in my Nokia E63 also died prematurely (about 4 months). It would lock up the phone until I removed it, and would crash Windows Explorer when I used my card reader. My printer also said that it can't read the card. And its the same one used in the Eris from what I can tell. So it might be that this card is prone to dying after some time.

Bought a 4 GB PNY afterwards, and is still working fine after a year. Though, I don't use that phone anymore, obviously. But my point is, that your Eris most likely didn't kill it.
 
interesting...mine is a sandisk 8g..bought it off ebay last year when i got my env touch...funny thing is, it's not dead by any means. i plugged it into my PC today, loaded all my stuff back into it and put my music back on....all went on fine, no cyclical redundancy error (i was getting that at 2am last night on my laptop, idk why? worked fine on the PC and i did nothing diff...) so now all is well again...grr, stupid technology
 
Had it eat a card on me, too. It was a good quality card, too...SD 16 GB. Happened when my phone locked up on me.

Going to try reformatting using that SD tool suggested by flopasques.
 
Just thought I would report back that reformatting the card using the SD card formatter mentioned below, worked great! Saved my card!

Funny though. When I tried copying over my files from my computer to the card (while in the phone), many times I got a cyclic redundancy error. When I put the card into a USB card reader, plugged that into my computer, and copied them over directly, that worked fine. No clue why that was. Hope I don't have to yank the card all the time to copy files onto it!

This happens to A LOT of Android phones. Usually, all you have to do is pop the card out, then put it back in the phone. Problem solved.

Not saying its going to work for you, but it's worked 8/10 times I've seen it happen.

Hope this helps someone. It should be the first thing you do to try to fix it, even though most people dont even think to do it.
