Debrand using ZIP file

I have seen that there are 2 options to debrand the desire. Firstly is to run the RUU exe file with the gold card inserted.

Second option ive seen is to make a gold card and also put the stock ROM on the gold card and rename it update.zip, then install via recovery.

Question is, does this second option defintly work? Is this the ZIP file, RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.ex - xda-developers

Bump.

Some guides are saying rename it update.zip and install via bootloader, Download Android 2.2 Froyo for Nexus One & Manually Update/Install Now

But are saying rename it PB99IMG.zip, 14/Jun r6 riskfreeroot - HTC Desire rooting guide - now with HBOOT 0.80 and OS to 1.21 support - Android @ MoDaCo

Anyone know for sure which is the correct method?

Now off to getting 2.2 using the goldcard.
