Declining Reception

This might be
probably is, but consider the source
a stupid question, but are you rooted? You need that access to be able to install this update. I normally wouldn't have asked but you and your phone are pretty new.

"Consider the source"? Really? I don't know everything, but I pointed digdug1 in the right direction to get detailed advice on what to do. What did you do to help? Tell him to consider the source? Wow. Now that was some great advice - in fact, you are so much more credible now because of it. If you had just asked questions like the rest of us instead of making yourself look like a fool, you would have found the answers to what you didn't ask but should have.

Just so you guys know i have recently moved was having the same problem with my phone in my original home area and the whole move from Georgia up to Ohio. Now in Northeast Ohio and having same problem. called VZW today got the run around and ppl have stated, and now they are sending me another "Refurb" unit. This now makes me on #6, the last 2 being the same issue. If this phone is no better im demanding either a Brand New or going to an Incredible. According to the rep i spoke with today, getting a new brand new unit or offering up a different brand new phone is on a case by case basis.. apparently having the same problem twice isnt good enough let alone this being the 6th droid im on now, and the 2nd one with reception problems.

Now who is showing off his foolishness? I said nothing about your comments to Digdug1, infact I posted that before you tried to help him, so I certainly wasn't talking about your response to him. Go ahead and argue with people on the internet. Look at the rest of the post if you can be bothered. I thought it might have been a dumb question to ask whether or not he was rooted. His account was made in April and he had 5 posts. He might not have been into tweaking his phone that much, so I had to ask if he was rooted and if not, remind him to root his phone before using the update, sheesh.

Whatever. I don't care anymore. That was the shortest 2-years I've ever experienced. Have a great life.

The Twitter route was a much better way to go for me. I tweeted the Verizon support user and I was asked to send them my account info. When they got back to me, they wanted a number to call me on other than my cell, so I sent them that info late last night.

When I got into work today, VZW tech support gave me a call. I explained my troubles with data and that it was with both our Droids. We went through all the normal stuff "What is your firmware, build number etc... I told her about the fluctuations and how it wasn't tied to location. She then brought up a spreadsheet of my data usage since 4/28. I was kind of embarassed that it took a while, but I told her that is why I was eager to see some resolution (I use it a lot for data.)

She was able to verify the fluctuating signal on both phones and attached the report to the trouble ticket that she entered. She didn't have any record of the previous ticket that was submitted. :( She told me that she was a tier 2 tech support person and was passing it onto tier 3. She said that she was also sending it to the system performance team.

I don't know if whatever comes of this will solve my problem, but I really appreciate the time and consideration I was given. She said there would be some sort of official response within 5 business days.

I should have asked if the fluctuations got any better after I did the *228 a week ago. I guess I was just so glad that they seemed to have recorded the speeds with each data transaction I made that I forgot to ask more questions. The tech said that they had a lot of tools available to them and it was easy to forget which of them were still available as they keep getting new tools to replace older tools.

Yeah, right. And just where do you plan on going? AT&T? Who are you fooling?

I was just calling you out for being ridiculous. You're the one who was all bent out of shape concerned about whether Verizon could handle the increased data load android phones are placing on the network, and you were ready to kick Verizon into the pit if they *tested* you. Your words, partner. If you don't like it, leave... and we'll see you again in 2 years.

Now, if you can get rid of your attitude problem, I have some helpful advice. No, I mean I really do.

Are these two folks married to each other or something? Makeup sex perhaps? lol[/QUOTE]

who cares.... let's let it/them go and get back on topic

and that is... reception has declined since 2.1

I don't get static, nor does my husband (who has had his Droid since November.) The only time I had poor voice quality was when I had voice privacy turned on. This just happened to you when they changed the baseband? What was your signal like before?

the crazy thing is that my voice quality seems to drop at night. and what i mean is during the day it sucks but at night the same call is almost impossible to hear, static, clipping, etc. i have done the baseband update although i thought it was inclued in bbv1 but ill downgrade and see what happens...

well sur enough... "like new" just arrived... reactivated it shut the old one off, made a few calls... sure enough declining reception, dropped 2 calls, and headphone jack is loose.... im really getting tired of this... debating on going back to a BB or the Incred... the incred screen scares me though as its not the same screen as the droid and i love the droid screen.. and with alll the speculation the shadow "droid2" could be right around the corner... grrr damn verizon what the hell to do.. That or drop VZW and go HTC on Sprint

baa269, I don't know how long your contract is but you should definitely keep getting them to help you while you still pay them. Unless you just don't get good service from VZW in your area, they really should help you out.

PLEASE report if the downgrade in base band actually helps. I am very curious. it might be 1 reason for me to root then.

Yes it does. Before 2.1 I had 3G almost all the time, after 2.1 I had 1xrtt almost all the time, after downgrading the baseband I now have 3G again virtually ALL THE TIME no matter where I go or what I do. You are correct - it is enough reason alone to root.

but, if I root now just to do this, correct me if I am wrong, 2.2 with kill the root and then you must do it all again when the ROM comes out? with 2.2 right around the corner, not sure if worth it to do it plus I wonder if 2.2 will make a change that would either fix the base band or make the then 2.0 base band no possible to run .2 versions later.

I'm just recently rooted and learning, but I'm pretty sure I've seen Fab talking about it on here... what you want to do if 2.2 is pushed out to us by Verizon is reject the update and suppress it - now if I recall correctly, Fab detailed how to do this in the rooted section somewhere. So basically, you shouldn't be afraid of losing root at all so long as you follow what Fab says to do.

As for 2.1, rooted users had all the benefits of 2.1 (built into various custom roms) long before Verizon pushed the update out. This was because of a leak somewhere in the ranks (I'm not the one who can completely explain this... someone help, please) and developers were able to integrate 2.1 into their roms.

It is anticipated that the same will happen with 2.2... I believe developers of various custom roms are already working on it, and rooted users will enjoy the benefits of 2.2 before the masses receive the pushed update from Verizon.

I am no expert on rooting, but I know enough to advise you to not be afraid to root. Stay close to the rooting section of this forum... there are so many people here who have incredible expertise, and they are very willing to help you. These people are always posting *Here's what to do...* threads that cover questions just like the ones you are raising. Good luck!

ok so i did the 228 update, reverted back to old baseband and i still get static on my end of the convo. bars are about the same at 2-3 its just i hear static and clipping whatnot. i also did the #776___ thing but i think that only helps the person your talking to. i did HOWEVER, notice that the static comes at night, during the day it fine but night it sucks major. sounds crazy i know but thats what droiddoes... :(

Not sure downgrading your baseband will do anything to improve voice quality. The baseband downgrade was really intended to address the lack of 3G signal after installing the 2.1 update. This thread has dual discussions going on (voice and data) and is getting convoluted. You might try a search or maybe just post a new thread with your question and I bet there will be several who can help. Good luck!

Tech support called me back Tuesday evening, but I have been playing phone tag with them for all of yesterday. What is really strange is that I get a constant 3G signal now. It only drops to 1x in parts of the subway but I am not too surprised by that.

I didn't do anything different, so it is either dumb luck or they fixed something over here.

VZW has closed my ticket. I now get good data. I don't know what has changed. I am not sure if they have done anything to improve call quality for people. I'd recommend staying on them about it.

If they send you a replacement phone, record the signal strength and call quality before you activate the new phone and compare it with the phone they sent you so maybe they will finally realize that it isn't the phone.
