I know the Fascinate has no dedicated camera button, and I can't seem to find an app/hack for it, but is it possible this is in the works? Is it possible to reroute one of the hard buttons for this purpose? I know a lot of people would like it, but being that it seems to not exist at this point, I'm guessing it may be an impossibility? Any info would be appreciated.

You can use a long press of the Search key using the app Launchkey to bring up the camera. works great.
This is my only problem with the SF.
It sucks if you have to use one hand or take a self portrait.

There are only three buttons on the phone - power, vol + vol -. Power would (obviously) turn the phone off, and vol buttons are already used for zoom.
What button would you like to use? The one that isn't there?
I'm not trying to be a total smartass here, but seriously... I hate the soft photo button too, but there are no real buttons on this phone. Most likely, the reason there is no app to re-map one to a camera function.

I'll take a better quality camera over a hard button any day. I will use it more as a camera if the pictures actually turn out good. I owned the DX and the SF side by side, and the Fascinate wins on camera quality, at least between the two phones I tested.

I have both the SF and the DX. I agree, Photos are a little better on the SF. The dedicated camera button is a nice feature of the DX tho.

Kinda hard/stiff to push if you use it a lot though. I just wish they would've skipped the mechanical shutter and gone with a thinner profile device. It didn't seem to make photos better at all. They should've got a thinner camera from Samsung or someone that actually makes decent cameras.
I mean, for a cell phone it's still great. Who are we kidding?? It's a phone that takes an actual usable picture. Isn't it great to live in 2010! The flash is always too overpowering on the X, however, in my opinion. Makes any sort of color and detail in the subject disappear. The flash on the Fascinate isn't quite as bad, which makes it slightly more usable in darker settings.To be honest... I'd be ecstatic if there were an app that would allow you to set the hard power button to take a picture while in camera mode. Or if not that, any of the soft keys like the search soft key. I'm not familiar with any of the apps out there set to reassign keys... is it possible to do this?

I was taking pictures of the kids with Santa today and I detected a bit of a hole in this argument.
When you're in photo mode, at least on my Fascinate, it disabled the power button altogether to keep the screen on. If they can disable it, or in other words, put the phone's power button on "hold", why not map it to snap the photo?
The issue then becomes, it's only a one level button, not having a way to focus before shooting, which the on screen button provides. Still, it would provide a physical button for those that need one.
