Help Default apps closing after a few seconds + Play Store

A couple of weeks ago I updated to Jelly Bean v4.1.2 kernel 3.0.31-1484249 from a previous version of the same name. Since then I have been noticing strange things happening. These include:

* When editing an alarm via the Clock app it will back-out after a few seconds and return to the overview of alarms.
* When viewing images and video clips in Gallery it will close after a few seconds (or back-out to Camera if I accessed it through that app).
* A few seconds after starting a download in the Play Store it will close the app (the download still runs). I think it has also happened a few times without downloading but I'm not sure.
* Downloading or updating apps through the Play Store is impossible. Sometimes the download starts and begins to work, other times it will not start at all. After failing I receive one of these message:
1 - Unknown error code during application installation: "919"
2 - Update for "application name" could not be downloaded due to an error. (911)
* Some selection menus back-out after a few seconds. An example is when changing a ringtone through Settings.

Third-party apps and games run perfectly fine, the problem seems to be with the apps that are already installed on the device. I have enough space to download new apps as well, in-fact I made even more room after noticing the failed downloads in the hope that would help.

Any ideas?

Sorry, I didn't see the question when you originally posted it. Can you clear up something? When you say
... I updated to Jelly Bean v4.1.2 kernel 3.0.31-1484249 from a previous version of the same name...
you are saying the phone was running a version of Android 4.1.x Jelly Bean prior to the update? And did you manually apply the update, or was it an OTA update that you accepted?

I've seen this kind of thing happen when going from 2.3 to 4.x, but not usually within the same version. One thing you could try is to boot into recovery and clear the caches.
