I am usually in reach of wifi, and I'd like to make that the default mechanism for internet connections, but when I open a browser it tries to connect over a network instead of wifi - any suggestions?

This seems rather obvious, but, do you have your wi fi switched on in settings / wireless & network / WiFi Settings
WiFi should be ticked and your Network password should be input before you can connect. :smokingsomb:
