Root defunct

Ugh I'm back home with the throttled VM web. Gimme about an hour to download, maybe longer if dev-host doesnt decide to stop downloading on me for unknown reasons. I wanna be back at my office :-(

try the new now. its another host but direct download. and the zip is different and should boot

Won't matter WHERE its from. Its how long it will take. Currently at 25% from dev-host. Is the other link a new build or just a reup of the other one? Leave then up at least so I can give them a shot sometime THIS CENTURY...sorry...damn throttle >_<. Already have my backup too. If anything I can steal my girlfriends to get them later. SHES not throttled, lucky...

Flashing the update.zip didnt make a difference as to whether or not the instructions work. Its actually how I returned to stock for the purpose of recording. I also included the stock recovery.img from it, cwm gives status 7 when trying to flash the update.zip
I'm more interested to see if the baseband/other stuff was upgraded. *is curious*

Just wanted to give an update on battery life. Ive been using my phone pretty regularly today off the charger since I recorded my tutorial this morning and flashed from less than 100% clocked at 1.94ghz both cores on SmartassV2. Just NOW getting to 10%

It doesn't work. I'm having the same problem as when I tried to build 10.1. It just sits on the green android, never loading the bootanimation.
"adb devices" gives me "0123456789ABCDEF device"

here is a zip with the written tutorial and a picture of the files that will be included in the final product. anything im missing?

also considering redoing the video tutorial to match the written one
The only thing I would suggest changing is the use of FTM mode. If you already rooted with cydia, it has no use for getting to the bootloader. just use adb reboot-bootloader. I recommend FTM mode for those who don't want to use cydia, as it installs the superSU binary, not the Superuser su binary (they're different, last I checked). The FTM mode was to get to the bootloader without having to root, although I'm not sure if you can or cannot use adb reboot-bootloader if your unrooted. o.0 Probably should have checked that. :o

So, my recommendations:
-If you use cydia, don't use FTM mode.
-Check if you can use adb reboot-bootloader if you aren't rooted. <-- especially this one, because I can update the install thread with that instead. FTM mode should more or less be last resort.
-If you can use adb-reboot bootloader while unrooted, then don't use cydia at all, use the superuser zip in temporary cwm. One less program to worry about, and it works faster-ish.

Your right. As I recall Supersu asked to install the binary for itself. It does, but because your already technically rooted. I'll test the adb reboot-bootloader suggestion myself in the morning and also rerecord my initial tutorial.
And this is why I asked for approval ^_^ off to bed. Ttyl

Ok, confirmation time!
- adb reboot-bootloader without root works from Android system without booting to FTM
- once booted into CWM it does install the appropriate binaries, but not Superuser itself
- everything from CWM works minus the USB mount, including wiping cache (just takes a minute)
- going to revise my written tutorial
- rerecording my video tutorial right now
- I'm sick today so I didnt get to my office. Everything will be posted tomorrow

So what I was pondering last night was that your 4.4 from may not have worked because you will need to build an AOSP compatible kernel. Stock kernel won't work and neither will your modified kernel because its built from stock. Just about every AOSP rom ive seen has a kernel built specifically for AOSP. Am I correct to assume this?

I built a kernel specifically for AOSP. The ramdisk is the problem. That gets loaded along with kernel upon boot up so thats where the problem is, because the ramdisk isnt executing the right code to get /system mounted to even boot up fully

So the Superuser zip I linked to doesn't install Superuser itself? o.0

Also, awesome to know about reboot-bootloader without root. I'll update my install instructions. The rest sounds great :D
