Delay with sending Gmail

So I've never used Gmail before and I'm playing around with it. I've sent two emails and both have been sitting in my out box for over5 minutes is there normally this long of a delay in sending email with the Gmail app and is there a way to change it.

no, not normal at all.

Try turning off, then back on, the mobile network.

If that doesn't work, try a reboot. A gmail email should send almost instantly.

I'm having the same issue when it does come thru it be like five emails at the same time with different time frames.
