Help Deleting email addresses?

How do I delete email addresses in my "people" list? When I hold down the only option I get is "Send contact as vcard" I just want to delete them. And any way of stopping them from getting there in the first place. I did do a search on Gmail and according to them there is no way to stop them from going into my "peoples" list, which really SUCKS!!
I did search but I must not be using the correct terms.

Did you try deleting the email address from the persons contact card?

I had this same problem. Amazingly frustrating.

First make sure that the person is deleted from any email accounts that you download to your phone (yahoo, gmail, etc.)

then, I created a new contact with the same email address, linked it to the one that I couldn't erase, and then deleted the new contact. I don't know why this happened, or why this works, but this is the result of me messing with it for over an hour.

1. Do you want to stop auto emails?
2. Are you trying to delete email email address/contacts that you do not want?

To delete a contact just click on that contact then hit menu. You'll then see the delete option.
