Well after the holidays im deciding to buy a new laptop for myself. But ive narrowed it down to two brands dell or the sony vaio series. With somehow having Acer chasing tail. So what would you guys recommend. I dont need a gaming computer just somethin fast enough for internet usage and music storage. Also streaming netflix movies.

ive had horrible experience with almost all laptop manufacturers. all of them have their own little quirks.

What were you reasons for narrowing it down to those two brand anyways?

Well my friend has had dell all his life and hes never had problems with his til his last one went up but he just replaced it with another. He says customer service is excellent. Performance wise it got the job done. Ive always been a sony man all my electronics are sony with exception to my cell phone and previous laptop which was a toshiba which i despised

just wondering lol. do you plan on changing a lot in the laptop or are you looking for best out of box experience?

my current HP runs great but has horrible build quality with the hinge cracking and not being covered under warrenty. D

ell desktops have always just been a headache for me so I stayed away from their laptops from that.

Asus has definately become a huge contender and will more than likely be my next laptop (if I decide against apple with windows OS).

Gateway i have no experience with but they are always synonmous with crap quality.

Lenovo's are nice but seem to be lacking in speed and performance.

Sony are probably the best looking and built next to apple and usually are great performers, but carry a price tag to match most of the time

Id definately give the asus a look and they usually have good deals.

My recommendations for PC laptops are usually Asus or Lenovo.

Sony electronics used to be considered the best there was. Those days are long gone. Sony is also one of the worst for bundling crapware, advertisements and trials on their PCs.

Just best out of box experience. Like i said im mainly using it for web browsing. Storing my music and streaming netflix movies to my tv

go with dell or asus, the sony's are nice but you almost have to install stock windows over it and the price premium isnt justifiable.

check your local stores see what you can get the best deal on.

I love my Toshiba laptop. Stay away from Gateway, they are crap. A lot of the HP laptops only last a few years before having hardware problems.

I personally prefer Dell over Sony. In terms of laptops overall... I like HP and Dell (only Dell Adamo and XPS line)

the all have the same parts and are made over seas just get the best deal for your dollar with the most PC you can get. I was a service tech for HP Compaq IBM they all are the same it's just like a car you don't want the one made on Monday, Friday or the ticked off employee.

I bought the wife and I Dell Inspiron 1545s more than a year ago. Other than the power brick dying on both, we haven't had any issues.

The problem with the power brick was caused by the both of us leaving them plugged in 24/7. I assume they overheated and croaked.

My wife had an old Inspiron 1100 and didn't have that problem.

I strongly suggest getting the 9 cell battery.

BTW, Dell's new laptops don't come with any OS media. You have to log onto their site and download the disk image. Cheap bastards.

1545 tech specs.
