I used his "C Programming Language" book 20 years ago in my final 2 years of university. It was the most often used school book ever for me. It was considered the Bible in my Computer Science program.

Wow...this is certainly a significant passing and sad since the C programming language has been so important and influential.

I also remember when Grace Hopper (COBOL) passed back in '92 (Grace Hopper - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). COBOL was the second computer language I learned (BASIC was first) and was before they started harping on "structured" COBOL, LOL ;).

C programming came in college along with several others and was one of the few languages that that made sense right out of the box to me. Concise and powerful. C rocks and always will :).

Cheers!

A lot of news about "Steve Jobs" but not that much mentioned about "Dennis Ritchie" especially considering without Dennis' contributions, most of us would not be using computers as we know it today, and Steve wouldn't be known for Apple as it is today.

Dennis Ritchie was definitely one of the great ones.

Cut my programming teeth on C. I remember the good old days when someone in our programming class pointed a pointer at a piece of system memory and BSODed the computer every time their program ran. Wasn't me that did this. Might've been someone who looked like me. Lots of good memories from programming class.
