Desire as a wireless router question

So, I know that I can use my Desire as a wireless router to share its 3G connection, but I'm just wondering if it's possible to use it as a router for wi-fi connections?

What I mean is, I would like to use a wi-fi hotspot service, but the subscription only supports one device at a time. As I would like my colleague to be able to use the connection as well, I wondered if it would be possible to use my Desire to connect to the hotspot and then set it up as a wireless router so that it can share the connection with me and my colleague's laptops?

I don't think you can do this. When you activate the hotspot the WiFi is automatically switched off, suggesting that it can either transmit or receive a WiFi signal, not both.

Indeed. I don't even know if you can connect 2 devices to the hotspot
