Help Desire Charging Port Broken

I've got my desire and my charging port is broken, I have taken it to Carphone Warehouse and they want 160 to get it repaired, is there any cheap alternatives or am I doomed without my Desire.

I havn't gone down the route of directly speaking to HTC, as I was given this phone by HTC.. The way I have identified it is by having one of the Engineers in a local Carphone Repair Centre have a look at it and he said it isn't covered by the warranty as it must of broke by me forcing the charger in too hard.

If it's just the connector broken (rather than ripped off the motherboard) it should be replaceable easily enough if you can solder.

If just the black plastic bit on the connector is loose, then it should be doable, but if the metal housing is loose then it means that the copper tracks have been lifted from the board and repair will be harder.

Edit: I haven't checked the drawing of the above part thoroughly, but it looks about right.

Looks like I'm going have to pay, took a Photo from my DHD..

This is a known fault in HTC phones. My connection became loose, so I sent it away to HTC to be repaired (resoldered) under warranty. The bad news is, it's come loose again - but it is better than it was. Just check you are still in warranty and email HTC and they should fix it for free. It came back very quickly too. A courier picked it up one day and it was back a few days later.

Good luck! Hopefully this fault will be resolved in some of the new HTC phones. Apart from this issue I love my HTC Desire.

I received my HTC EVO DESIGN 4G for Christmas. I had doubts about the usb port being able to handle multiple daily in/out connecting to my Ipad or wall charger at one location and my Pc at my home. In May, the wall charger went intermittent and now almost impossible to get a charge connection. Next, the PC became intermittent for tethering. PC data cable charges fine but I have to work at moving HTC plug a hair or two for a data connection. I found this site in search for answers. HTC has a horror story of problem posts for usb socket problems going back to 2010. I'm going to try their warranty service. I wonder what good is that, if they only re-solder some connections? That usb connector needs replacement with an upgrade of quality. That little pin
connector should be secured to it's shell a lot better than those being shipped.
Recall them!
