Desire Firmware OTA Update

I'm sorry if this is in the thread already but has anyone tried the GPS yet since the update. I use Cardiotrainer for mapping my running and tonight was the first time with this new update and it lost the signal and did not record more then 400m of a 5k run.

I'd be interested to knw if it is common. Might just be high pressure or something mind you...

for me too after update GPS signal or fix seems to be is poorer. have GPS test app instelled and can say that before update it could get a 9 satellite fix maybe in 30 sec inside the house. now it takes more than a minute to get a fix even outside :( have navigon trial version and now seems to get a fix much slower (A-gps is on on both occasions before and after update)
and GPS test app is showing like 70 metres accuracy whereas before update was showing 5-3 metres
dont know whats going on but i hope they didnt mess it up
could others test their gps
thanx

I have an Orange branded phone that was unbranded and unlocked, installed the new firmware and wifi not working now =(. If I reflash to the new radio rom, will it simlock my phone again? If it does, can I use the same unlock code to unlock it again?

I have a Vodafone uk Desire and it has been rooted, my phone keep telling me the update is available it is downloaded but wont install, so i tried the manual method but this also errors at about 20%.

anybody got any clues why?

is it best to switch off the update reminders and wait for 2.2?

i really would like the signal issues sorted though.

I found Google Earth in the Market this morning, at long last. It wasn't there last night.

Installed fine using 1.21.405.2, CPW unbranded on Vodafone.

Does anyone know exactly what has been fixed/added in this new update apart form the obvious facebook problem? I've been using it for a day now and haven't noticed anything different at all.

Contacts Lookup in Exchange 2003 (Global Address List) now works :)

I don't know if I'm the only one but gas anyone else noticed a slight dip in battery life since the update? I have.

Update on my situation:

I have a T-Mobile HTC Desire that I unbranded using a generic HTC rom (through the process of making a "Goldcard", then downloading the RUU file and running that on the PC). That all went smoothly but when I then did this most recent update, I lost the WiFi.

It seems that this IS an issue with unbranded devices. Devices that come from HTC with no branding originally are fine.

I had to re-flash back down to the generic HTC firmware to get WiFi back, but am pleased to say that I have now managed to update to this newest firmware.

I used the Goldcard I made previously, and the firmware located here RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.ex - xda-developers <- the first link is to the RUU file.

The process is - turn off phone, remove sim card and microSD card. Put in Goldcard (have a search around for the instructions for making a Goldcard, it's not hard). Turn on phone, connect via USB, run the RUU....exe file downloaded. That wipes the handset and installs this new firmware, re-boots, etc.

Turn off, put your correct microSD card in, turn on, set the phone up WITHOUT the sim card in (first time I left the sim card in and it put some Virgin mobile rubbish on the phone, even though it was a T-Mobile handset), then power down, put sim card in and away you go.

Am now on 1.21.405.2 with working WiFi and everything.

Is the demand Rom the official HTC one, on a customised one?

My guess is the latter, so I assume something is missing or has been tweaked which is whats causing the issue.

I am having the same issue now after updating my debranded Orange HTC Desire to the firmware update OTA.

Does anyone know if this is now going to be a recurring problem - ie, is there anything inherently 'wrong' in debranding our devices that causes it to do this?

Seems strange to me that Wi-Fi would be the only thing to be disabled. The code for that is surely the same regardless of which carrier supplied the phone, so why would it be disabled?

I'm gonna follow the steps you posted to get my Wi-Fi back, brykins. Thanks.

Have a good read through some of the XDA-Developers forums first. There seems to be issues with de-branded Orange handsets doing this re-flash and then becomming sim locked or needing some code from Orange to work or something. Not entirely sure what, as I have T-Mobile and haven't had that issue, but check it out first.

You're right. Thanks. It seems that those who followed the steps on the XDA-Developers forums to debrand their Orange devices get no Wi-Fi when updating. People then try to flash to the generic rom but the phone then becomes SIM locked (to what, I have no idea because it's not Orange) and therefore unable to make calls.

People then have to purchase an unlock code (the website some are offering as a solution charges

Just wanted to give you guys an update.

Orange branded Desire -> unbranded -> unlocked -> updated OTA -> wifi broke -> reflashed with that radio rom -> everything working =) still unlocked

I checked my unbranded A8181 model HTC Desire with 1.21.405.2 OTA update and the GPS gave me a positive lock outside within about 7 secs - accuracy stated at 16m. Seemed spot on with Google Earth.

After updating OTA, I followed the steps brykins posted on my previously de-branded Orange unit. I downloaded the ROM, created a goldcard and installed it on my phone.

Sure enough, after it had rebooted my phone was SIM locked. I paid

Thanks everyone for helping me sort this out. I've disabled OTA updates now and will be much more careful in future before simply hitting the OK button!

Not necessary, you'll be fine now that you're unlocked and up to date.

The problem isn't the OTAs, the problem is people messing about with their phone's firmware without knowing what they're doing.

I have an unbranded Desire from CPW, I'm on Orange.
got the update notification through this afternoon. Tooka a while to download (as I was in a non wifi zone).
downloaded OK, installed OK.

What is supposed to be the difference/upgrade?

I see people writing about google earth. I cannot see it in the market.

Finally, I'm really sorry if I sound like a numpty here, but this software update isn't the 2.2 (Froyo) is it?

two days now since update, everything working ,,,,but where is google earth ???

I had to wait a couple of days after the update (mobiles.co.uk/CarphoneWarehouse unbranded and unlocked Desire) but Google Earth eventually became visible on the market.

Now the problem is that I don't have enough memory to run it
