Desire Firmware OTA Update

Well mine just updated to 1.21.405.2.......i had just got home from holiday and thought it was a nice surpirse, hoping to see some new features ect....gutted now, i've lost my wifi connection.
Mine was a Tmobile handset which i debranded and flashed to a generic rom, using the goldcard method. (sort of wishing i had the courage to totally root mine!)
I have written to HTC support, lets see what happens now.

To save me trawling through 10 pages of this thread, has anyone got a date of a fix from HTC?

Cheers

I lost my wifi when doing this update at the start of June. I sent the phone back to HTC to reflash with a working ROM. When it came back, they had updated it to the 1.21.xxx (the latest version).

I made the mistake of going back via CPW which took 2 weeks. If I had gone direct to HTC, I would have had it back within a week.

Had yours been debranded when you applied the update?
As HTC's final offer is to call customer services and book the phone in.

Phone hadn't been debranded, it was still using the ROM that was supplied when I bought it although this was an unbranded ROM (no Orange bloatware, HTC splash screen, etc)

checked my phone for updates this morning, showed nothing but i shall keep waiting. decided to check the current firmware version and its showing 1.20.207.3, im almost certain the last time i checked it was a lower number. im bought me phone from o2, i assume its not branded as a vodafone sim card worked in the phone and the box it came in had an extra void sticker so i guessed it came straight from htc. Can the desire auto update without any need for me to click continue or anything?

I think i read somewhere here on the android forums O2 Desire's come with the latest firmware when bought, mine is from O2 also,so we will never receive the very latest firmware update. The next update we receive should be "froyo" android 2.2 ;)

As far as i understand the desire will check for updates on a regular basis and inform us when one is available but not actually install it,we have to do that manually.

p.s Ive been with O2 for a few years and have had several phones from them and in my experience O2 phones haves always come unlocked,so i could always use any networks sim cards in them.

Yeah O2 did not get the desire until way after everybody else so perhaps the latest firmware only fixes a problem with the early desires.

Another strange thing, i can no longer find Red Poker Club in the market, can somebody else who has lost their wireless with this update see if they can find it?
Cheers

There have been occasions in the past (pre losing wifi) when I was unable to see Red Poker Club in the market. Since getting my phone back from HTC, I was able to find it first time and install it. I don't know if they remove the app prior to updating it or not. This is the only conclusion I can draw.

I have noticed another issue.

The weather bit under my clock on the homescreen now says "London" whereas before it would know the weather for my home and work location, (not London) now it's just stuck on London.

If i go to the weather App, it just doesn't manage to update it correctly, although, strangely Google maps knows where i am!

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to document my experience with an OTA update to 1.21.405.2 today. Unbranded, unlocked HTC Desire from Carphone Warehouse (UK). Auto-backup ON, Auto-update notification ON.

Update notification received, was on my home WiFi so followed the prompts to download. Download completed, followed prompts to Install.

I'm afraid I can't quite remember the sequence but at some point the following message was displayed:

"An error occurred while saving your data to your SD card. The backup cannot be completed."

...and then with no option to abort despite the error, the phone rebooted and began to apply the update.

Upon rebooting it looked at first as if I had lost everything as all home screens had been reset to defaults (massive clock etc.) together with some funky new animated background - but all settings remained fine.

I then set about trying to restore my home screens to their former glory and discovered (unless i'm missing something), that the HTC People widget is now missing an "All" option; and was demanding that I select a group.

I then played around with various apps to check everything was OK, and when checking Maps, noticed the GPS wasn't locking on! Went outside and gave it 5 minutes in case it had lost previous location information and needed to get its bearings, but still nothing, so re-booted. After reboot, GPS then worked, but I am sure it is not locking on as fast it did pre-update.

The first SMS received post-update appears twice in Messages, but have had a few since and no further duplications.

Fingers crossed on the battery life now!

Update: I have since noticed that despite still reporting the previous values, auto-brightness was not having any effect (screen permanently on full brightness), and screen time-out was back to 2 minutes. After revisiting those options under Settings, the saved values are once again being applied.

I got the same error message when I received the update on my previous Desire about a month ago. I thought it was because I had disabled the backup feature, but thought it was poor that the phone couldn't override this option for these sorts of situations. Being as you had backups enabled, I guess it's another bug in this update.

You were lucky I couldn't get mine to work again and its gone back to CPW for repair, wish I hadn't updated now.

So is there anybody who updated to the latest version, 1.21.405.2, with a NOT unbranded or flashed htc desire?
Is it having the same problems?

If you mean has anyone upgraded a "factory fresh" Desire without problems then yes. HTC Desire on T-Mobile.

I don't know why anyone would mess about with a piece of kit like this. Seriously, just wait for the official updates - surely a wait and a working phone is better than a bodged update that kills it?

I leave my kit alone as much as possible, the more you tinker with things, the more likely they are to keel over and die.

By "official" you mean froyo? Because I am waiting for it, but this bluetooth is killing me, everytime restarts my phone when I use it for remote control, so if it is fixed in this update i'll upgrade it, but don't want to get everything messed up like others have..

I basically did the same thing that I did when I debranded my phone.

You need a goldcard (Lekky has a guide on his website) then I installed the
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe from RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.ex - xda-developers

I said it was from Modaco earlier which was my mistake.

I suspect if your phone is already a generic one then you can just download the zip from that thread and follow;

The way I did it completely wipes everything.

I tried it without the Goldcard on one i hard previously de-branded.
Fails with CID incorrect Update Fail

Can anyone help?

Need my WIFI back

I've been notified about two updates, but neither have worked. The phone just keeps cycling through the 'Click install to apply update' and rebooting phase. All the icons and steps indicate that it's going to work, but it just prompts me to install and restart continuously. And when I say continuously, I mean twice now I've persisted for well over two hours.

I haven't read about anyone else having this problem. But I haven't completely combed through this thread.

The phone is completely unmodded from when I got it new a month ago. It's a Vodafone, who don't seem to brand their phones anymore (or at least the last two I've had from them).

HI everyone im new here got Desire for a month now, finally got some good phone to stick the apple geeks into face !

Anyway where to get the new 2.2 android on phone ?
