Desire Firmware OTA Update

I think you'd remember if you'd actually done the update! It's quite a big download, you are presented with various dialog boxes and the phone reboots a couple of times.

In that case I have definitely not done the update which makes the whole thing even stranger, unless it was a genuine hardware failure which just happened to coincide with this update being released.

I've been reading this post with interest. Last week my Desire gave me the unable to start wifi message. I hadn't received any notification that there was a new update (I'm not sure if there is an option to automatically download it or not). I am on an unbranded Desire (but not debranded, its exactly the same firmware that came on the the phone from Carphone Warehouse). I've sent the phone back to HTC to be repaired although I have made the mistake of doing this via the carphone warehouse who are not the fastest at sending the phone off.

A question thats has been asked a couple of times in this thread but I dont think has been answered is 'will I have to do this each time there is an update?'
Your situation seems to be unusual. For everyone else, it's the flashed/debranded phones that have had the wifi problem.

In answer to your question, I'd guess that the reason that no-one has answered is that no-one knows. This is the first upgrade on a new phone. Apart from yourself, no-one here has mentioned any problems with a standard phone, so extrapolating from that, all that can be said is that there should be no problems with standard phones, but there's a possibility of the problem recurring on altered phones.

Bit confused, my phone offered the update but I said cancel as I wasn't on Wi-fi. Went to look at downloading just now, and it is saying no update available... but my software is not updated.

Anyway to get around this?

That is the exact same problem that I'm having. Phone says no updates available.

I installed the update and didn't notice anything had changed really. But I have just discovered that the "manage applications" function is now working again. It had originally stopped working, I assumed due to me installing and uninstaller app (I know I know) however it is now working again with the uninstaller app still installed ;-)

hmm if the update is 1.19.161.5 why is my firmware on fone showin 2.1-update1

....LOL.... ...O.o...

pmsl :D:D:D:D:D

any way... there is a difference between firmware on the phone and software (which is called Android).

BTW...

Has anyone updated Orange branded phone ???

Probably all the debranded people complaining to HTC, whilst obviously not telling them that they debranded using a modified non-HTC ROM

It has been pulled by HTC. Might have been giving some people problems, so they pulled it back.

Interesting.

I got a HTC Desire last week and received the 1.21.405.2 OTA update yesterday morning and today I received a factory fresh replacement phone, to try and solve a mobile network issue, and it already had 1.21.405.2 on it.

Hello Guys! this is my first post here, and i would like to thank everyone for all the useful information, that i found here! I got my first android phone this week, an HTC Desire, and i love it, love android :)

Thanks to the rooting instructions i managed to root my phone without problems, in 10 minutes. Thank you for that!

My question will be very very noob:
After rooting, the phone asked me if i want to install an update, 1.21. What happens, if i install it ? Will be the rooting reset (or any data on the phone) ? Or can i install it ?
I don't know what this update will do....

If you've rooted your phone, installing the update will kill your wifi. For more information, read the rest of this thread.

my battery life has beeen absolutely shafted since the update it drains completely in a few hours compared to about 16 hours pre update!!!! This is so annoying. Is it possible to go back to previous version??

Good, that i didn't do it...
Sorry for not reading the whole thread, but it is very very long... I read 10-15 other looong loooong threads though :)

Many thanks for the answer! I will stay with 1.15 then.

Yes - very good that you didn't do it! You're really not missing anything either; I haven't noticed any difference.

I asked why it had been pulled and was told, "for tweaking". When asked if it would be renamed so that those who have already updated can access the tweaks, they replied "we cant answer that, we'll update you via twitter".

Eh?? I downloaded it on my t mobile yesterday, what's the issue and why was it available if its been 'pulled' source please!!

I did the update from tmobile, I havn't had any problems, battery life seems the same. Don't get why they pulled the update!

I did the T-mobile update too, it solved the out of sync audio on videos issue nicely, but I haven't noticed any other changes. I did have to delete all the preset bookmarks that reappeared, reset my homepage and reset my keyboard back to the mod version to get the voice search button. Coincidently google voice search has just appeared in the app store.

Did the update, unbranded phone. No issue.

Found the broken Company Directory lookup now seems to work. Did not change the exchange sync just started working!

Still no Google Earth for me....
