Desire HD or wait for Arc?

Hey can someone suggest me if it is worth waiting for the Sony Arc or should I just go with the Desire HD. What I feel is that I should buy a phone preloaded with gingerbread 2.3. So can someone tell me wether it makes any difference if I just buy a 2.2 phone and upgrade it to 2.3 or if it will be exactly the same thing with no difference? Also is there any chance for HTC to start selling the Desire HD with 2.3 or no? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Depends on what you want and what you use the phone for. It's really up to personal preference so look at reviews and mess with the devices to see what is best for you.

The Desire HD will probably get Honeycomb on 2q as an OTA update. Note. with Sony Ericsson phones, updating the OS for a full version is like Samsung. You have to use a PC sync software to do it, which you can get from SE of course. Minor updates however, are pushed directly to the phones OTA. SE's approach is a hybrid of Samsung and HTC in terms of upgrades.

The two phones have the same processor, same screen size, practically the same OS. Since HTC now sources its screens from Sony, I may even say, the same screen tech. This will boil down to a question of style and aesthetics. Do you like the HTC or the SE appearance? Do you like the new Mediascape UI (its been revised from the X10) vs. HTC Sense?

At this point, your decision should be personal.

My personal opinion is the Desire HD. But that's my personal opinion only and based on my personal bias. You won't go wrong with either

I don't think the desire is getting honeycomb, that's pretty much a tablet online operating system. I think some xda people put it on there but that by no means means that an ota update is gonna happen... ever.

What is an OTA update? I know Gingerbread is 2.3 but what is Honeycomb? So basically is it possible to officially upgrade the Desire HD to 2.3?

Ota means over the air which means you click update and it does it by itself over the cellular connection.

I don't know for an absolute fact (search google and the forums) that it is packaged with or soon to get gingerbread but it is definately out there for you to get, through rooting the device.

Honeycomb is the new mobile OS for android tablets, like the Xoom.

Oh ok. Thanks a lot. Basically rooting means jail breaking right? So if I root it I can get any paid app for free?

Rooting and jailbreaking are very similar for the respective devices but they aren't made specifically for getting free apps, rather, they open up the phone's full resource capability in order to do more things (things that are not allowed on the device's unrooted state).

Such as doing what? So is it possible to get paid apps for free on android or not?p

Its more of the ability to flash new ROMS that you wouldnt necessarily be able to update to on a lower end handset. I have a O san Fran and will probably never get the opportunity to run 2.2 officially but now I am able to run a custom 2.2 rom!

There are places to get paid apps for free like PirateBay, AppBucket and others. But I don't know if there are any strings attatched because I've never used them.
