Help desire hd powers off randomly

I've had my dhd for nearly a week now and twice this has happened.

I've taken it out of my pocket and screen won't turn on. rang it and its turned off, and connected to charger and no lights come on.

I've had to remove battery to get it to boot up again.

its running 2.3.3 and I don't use any task killers etc.

is it possible the battery is dodgy or something, or has anyone else experienced anything similar?

I got it new from an eBay shop, so how do I register it for warranty?

Welcome to the forums! :)

When this issue has come up in the past, it's generally an issue with the SIM becoming dislodged. Is it inserted correctly?

I know some folk have even gone as far as sticking a little bit of paper underneath the SIM to make it a little tighter and keep it in place. Not sure I'd want to try that though although you could try it for a bit to see if that is the issue?

thanks for the quick reply!

I did actually take everything out today after the second time, battery SD and sim. suppose ill wait and see what happens...

I emailed HTC and they said warranty is til Oct 12 so should be all ok in that respect.

if it happens again might try the paper thing.

I did search and couldn't find anything though.

gotta say, love this fone too!

No probs, you have to be pretty specific with the search feature, but I'll see if I can dig up the threads if you want?

Yeah, it does have its issues (as most phones do), but it's still an awesome phone. Is this your first smartphone?

yes mate, id be interested to read them...

not first smart fone, had windows mob 6.1 and a wildfire.

thanks for ur help! those threads would be ideal.

Here you go chief, take a look through these:

It's mentioned in one of the threads that a friend of mine had an issue and getting an otterbox case seemed to sort. The commuter clamps down quite hard around the phone and I presume this applies enough pressure to keep the SIM contacts connected?

That's speculation on my part though.

thanks for that.. I might try taping the sim in place.

I'm not 100% sure its the same issue though as mine wouldn't start until i removed battery. these say when they pressed the button to wake it started up as if just turned on?

its gotta be worth a shot though.

do u reckon a bit of masking tape?

it could well be this though the more I think about it. both times its happened I've had it in my pocket walking and it wouldn't wake when I took it out and pressed the button. maybe it is moving slightly and making it crash?

It could be, it's certainly the most common cause I've seen reported on here anyway.

I'm not sure about the masking tape thing, those solutions say it's ok, but I'd be paranoid. As long as you keep checking it though, I suppose it would be fine.

If you do stick it down with masking tape, be careful and not tape the metal contacts as they're the antenna.

seems a bit of a coincidence.. know what u mean about the tape too. thinking I might put a bit on the inside of the cover to make it fit a bit tighter.

its also not the best design. took me a couple of goes to get it on right. think there us a slide clip in the middle, first time I put it on it wasn't flush in the middle. this is also making me wonder if it was on correctly in the first instance.

guess I'm just going to have to give it some time initially and see what happens.

Yeah, that's the problem the friend I mentioned above had, it didn't sit flush with the rest of the handset.

If you do tape it, let us know how you get on.

right, been using all week now. no tape or paper and all good.

I don't want to speak too soon but hopefully it was an issue with the sim cover not on properly.

I've had the phone in and out of the pockets all week and been walking about etc just as both times when it went off.

fingers crossed its all ok!

just an update...

HTC collected it Friday, and I got it back today, Wednesday. quick turnaround!

replaced the mother board..

should be ok now hopefully!

thanks for your help too.
