Root Desire HD technical difficulty rooting ;-( been trying over a week now, please help

You're right there... especially if the phone is carrier branded... all the bloatware rubbish that the various networks put on the phones!

Android is open source and so having a rooted device is the only way to fully enjoy it the way it should be (so you can mod to your hearts content)! :D
 
I'm having a lot of trouble with downgrading as well and stumbled across this thread. I'm able to get through to the hash tag but then I can't type anything. Any chance anyone knows how to solve this problem?

Hi London Cal... welcome to the forums! :)

I guess you've had a look at El Presidente's thread (http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/354749-how-root-install-custom-rom-desire-hd.html) - this is a full list of lins to the how to's on the net, specifically for the DHD.

The # means you have temp root and that you need to continue with the next set of CMD lines.

EDIT - just seen that you'cve said you can't continue further/type anything... that's a little strange. You have got all of the stuff downloaded that you needed (the downgrade files/etc) haven't you?
 
Sorry for the very late reply. I'm certain I have everything downloaded and put in the right places. I get temproot but at one point it says [-] sendmsg<> failed. Could that be something to do with it?

edit: Sorry, after sending that I realised that sounded a bit ungrateful so apologies for that. I'm just getting very annoyed at this.

Don't worry about it, it was temperamental with me too so I can understand your frustration.

How long have you left it?
 
From memory, as part of the process, it creates a file (part 17backup or something like that) on your SD Card. It doesn't look like it's doing that are you connected in charge only mode/is your SD Card mounted?
 
I'm in charge only with usb debugging turned on. I've tried it with two seperate sd cards, both after normal use and after having been formatted (fat 32). I checked that they were mounted properly after formatting by installing an app to sd card and that worked fine.
 
I've just realised that when the downgrade begins, my phone has a notification saying "SD card is now safe to remove." Is this normal or could this be the problem seeing as you said I needed to make sure my SD card is properly mounted
 
Potentially, before you perform the adb shell command, make sure the card is properly mounted.

I've just noticed, are you entering "adb shell ./data/local/tmp/GingerBreak" as one command?

adb shell
<Press Enter>
./data/local/tmp/GingerBreak

Try it like that, that's how I did it.

I get that but from there nothing happens. I left it for about 5 minutes or so but nothing changed from there. I could type after that though but there was no # so I don't think I had temp root.
 
Managed to get temproot and enter the next bit of code about a minute after I made that last post and the phone is now updating after being restarted. Thanks for all your help with this problem. I'm glad to finally be able to root the phone fully.

I am getting exactly the same as above but nothing further. Have tried rebooting phone and pc and still nothing but the flashing cursor. What have I done wrong?? Ten minutes have passed and still nothing. Any tips?

hello all

i need some help regarding my new htc desire hd
i managed to temo root the phone using the fre3vo method , then i dowgradet it to 1.32.406.5 , created gold card and all...after downgrading ive tried temp and perm rooting whit visionary plus but it doesent work , temp root hangs on black screen , perm rott just doesend work at all. fre3vo solution not working , psneuter method doesent help to ...ive tryed to factory reset the phone , and start over , reinstall configure adb , format sd card ...ive tried all that comes to mi mind ,im really lost here , advice is needed .thank you

Have you managed to sort this yet? You could try the ACE Hack tool?
