Help Desire HD video recording Problem

May 15, 2011

I own a Desire HD. But I've noticed a problem when I record a video at 720p HD. On other resolutions it works perfectly well.

The video freezes when i move the phone around to focus on something else.
Has anyone else faced this problem? And if you have, please tell me how to fiz this! :)
I had a very weird problem yesterday and I'm not sure if it is similar or related to your problem.

I was trying to shoot some HD video but whenever I switched from photo mode to video mode the screen went black and the phone would only respond to the home key and that would exit the camera app.

After several goes with the same result I decided to reboot the phone hoping that would clear the issues.

Instead, when I restarted it I got a recovery type screen. Was similar to when you pull the plug on a Window PC and you get the safe mode, last good configuration etc options.

I chose Recover rather than Factory Reset or any of the others. That didn't fix it either though and I ended up with a black screen with a red triangle and exclamation mark.

The only fix I could then try was taking the battery out for 30 seconds.

I'm really worried this is going to be a major problem and that my 6 month old DHD is dying. What else is going on here? Is Gingerbread likely to fix it?

Hey kingdave,

No. You're problem is completely different. I'm able to shoot the video without a problem. But when i replay the video, the video freezes over one frame(while the audio continues uninterrupted), and then the video starts playing again after a while. This happens repeatedly thorughout the length of the video.

Which version of Android do you have?

Settings -> About Phone -> Software Info.

What is the Android version and the software number?

There was a known issue with the Video recording in 2.2, which was fixed in 2.2.1 however, 2.2.1 carried other problems so it was pulled. Hopefully the issue will have been fixed in 2.3 (the release should be imminent).

Have you tried another camera app?
