Issue:cannot enable data connection

apologies if this has been covered but I've searched the forum and web and can't find a solution.
Since saturday I've been unable to access the internet via 3g/hsdpa on my desire. I've tried changing and resetting APN settings, battery in/out and finally factory reset (twice) with no luck.
Wifi works and I have a strong phone signal but I cannot receive any data over mobile network whether the toggle is on or off.
I've been using SwitchPro widget from Droidshogun to control the phone's various settings and have had no troubles at all, there was a recent update but I'm not sure if this is connected to my issue. Besides, I would have thought a factory reset would solve that completely...
Any suggestions? I've had the phone since May and haven't experienced any problems like this. Hoping for some advice before I try 3 customer services
