Help Desire not detected by HTC Sync

I have an HTC Desire and want to connect it to HTC Sync which I have installed on my computer today, from the HTC site.

When I plug my phone into the USB on the computer, nothing happens. If I double click the HTC Sync desktop icon, Sync launches but says "No Device Connected"

I have tried 2 USB ports which I know work.

The USB lead seems fine to me as the phone charges when plugged in to the PC.

Any thoughts guys?

I've found the problem. The charging USB Cable is just that, for charging. The supplied HTC USB cable works fine.
