Help Desire not reading sim card

Plain and simple - the screen now says no sim card inserted, have tried numerous reboots, re-seating the sim card, memory card an battery, with and without charger connected and nothing is working. How can my Desire just suddenlty decide to refuse my sim card? It was dropped from a relatively low height yesterday and it seemed completely unaffected and worked perfectly well until about 6pm this evening.

I'm really hoping someone can give me some idea of what has happened and if/how it can be sorted...

Swapped mine and the missus sims, my phone booted up with hers no problem, her blackberry gave an 'initialisation failed' message and no network signal so it seems my SIM is dead. Just as well I copied my contacts to my phone....

Bit weird why it just died.
Contact your provider.

Mine just died a while back didn't do anything to it just decided it wasn't going to work, orange sent me out pretty quick
