Root Desire - ROM & Network type (Telus)

andruoid

I have rooted my Desire and may make the jump to a custom ROM. I have decided 100%, yet. If anything it will be a Gingerbread ROM, Sense-based or not is fine by me. I currently have almost all the apps I need with about 60MB internal memory remaining. More is always better though and would prefer to free up some space.

Now for my question: Is there anyone else on the Telus network here who have had any success or issues with a ROM flash? Telus runs on a HSPA 850/1900 network, if that makes a difference. Thanks!

There are a few cdma roms and many gsm. Which is yours?

It's different hardware see

But network is controlled by the radio and flashing a Rom won't change that unless the Rom comes with radio. Which is rare

There are definitely telus users rooted. Not sure what roms they're on, but your device is on the lucky side. Theres a lot out there for GSM so your options are vast. You can just treat it as any other device.

However, have a read of the FAQ's in my sig

I have a Desire and am on Telus.

I rooted a while back and have been exploring with lots of custom ROMS. After playing around with Defrost and GV, I went back to a SenseHD ROM (see http://androidforums.com/desire-all...l-over-again-sense-hd-rom-recommendation.html) as it was the most stable and quickest ROM out there. And not to mention SenseHD (new version of the Sense for the HD and Z) may not ever be available for the Desire, so it was very cool to have that.

However,

When exploring with DF and GV, I realized how much faster a non-sense base ROM is. The Sense UI is very pretty, but it is sluggish compared to other launchers and widgets. Having said this, I beleive I found the best of both worlds;

The above DHD ROM comes in a "lite" version. That is, it uses all of the key HTC apps (dialier, people, mail, calendar), but no sense UI. I use launcher pro and non-HTC widgets instead. The biggest thing I missed when going to DF or GV was the polished contacts, mail, dialer, etc. apps that the Sense HD ROM had.

Doing the above will not disappoint. My phone flies and is rock solid.

If you want to stay with Sense, check out the leedroid roms. If you want Sense HD, look no further than the above ROM (now at v1.8). IF you want some HTC polish and no Sense UI, then use the lite version of the above.

Thanks for that feed back flyte, very helpful info. Still undecided when I'm going to flash. However, I'm probably going to try a 2.3 non-sense ROM to see the difference in real world memory usage and speed gains. I have some more reading to do before anything else :-)
