Root Desire rooting problems

Newbie
Hi,
I have a Desire on vodafone
2.29.405.5.

I tried using the latest unrevoked last night - notes here
------------------------------------------------------------
Downloaded unrevoked - uninstalled HTC sync. Wouldnt install - failed to load user UI error.

Uninstalled every driver related to HTC sync and used the HBOOT driver that unrevoked recommends - now its worse.

Unrevoked wont recognise my phone now

I've the android sdk downloaded and installed - maybe that affected it?
What to do now - manual root?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Solved i think - delete apps from the phone memory - not the sd card!
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Now im still getting the same 'internal error'?

Any idea's?
Im new to rooting and there seems to be 100s of guides online - each different - some help please?
Thanks!

Only use my guide and follow it step by step. Linked in my signature. Also read the rooting faq here, also in my signature

Have you rebooted your PC since the install?

Hmmm - im rooted and now trying to use Titanium to backup my Desire.
That needs busybox- but it wont install despite it telling me i have root access
Any idea's??

When i go to my superuser app - it tells me busybox installer has acess to root, also titanium backup and rom manager...

Feck it - i might just install cyanogen mod and reinstall apps afresh...

To install Busybox for Titanium, use the "problems?" button in Ti - that will bring up the option to download it. Don't worry about what the SU app says, just do this and it'll sort it out.

You don't want ROM Manager on your phone. Seriously - it doesn't work well with the Desire, and the reason there is a "do not use ROM Manager" sticky thread in this forum is that prior to that a large number of problems we were seeing were coming from people who were using it.

Getting there, bit by bit...

This is one of the most frustrating things ive done in a while...
Now trying to install CWM using this guide

It wants me to use adb push , and then adb push itsmagic...
What the fook is itsmagic? Cant find it anywhere :(

Highlight "recovery" using volume buttons and press power to select.

Please read the rooting faq available in the "all about rooting" sticky thread or the red link in my signature. All this basic stuff is covered there.

Ok cyanogen has been on its little blue man screen for 50 minutes now...
How long should it take?

I went into CWM - installed update.zip which contained the lastest cyanogen for HTC desire, then it did its thing for aminute or so. It said flashed successfully, so then i used the track button to reboot...

Been waiting a long time - im guessing this isnt a good sign?

It doesnt need to be update.zip. Iy can keep the same zip and use "install zip from SD card" Then you always know what roms are on your sd card instead of just "Update.zip".

Did you do a wipe of data before install?

Dammit - another thing - google usb drivers rev 4 dont appear to work with cyanogenmod...
:(
I cant mount my Desire in Xp :(

Sorted - a shagging dropdown menu allows mount as usb drive...

I was about to take an axe to both my phone & laptop!
Thanks!

Fooking hell - will this hassle ever end?

Everything was working fine bar the Market - so i tried to clear the cache, stop the market app and reboot...

Now the shagging phone is stuck in the cyanogen blue animation :(
I've no idea where to go from here. Format and re-install again?
Dammit...
