Root Desire S S-ON Locked bootloader wrong HBOOT

Hi all,

I had a phone, which was S-OFF, however the bootloader was locked. I unlocked it using HTCDev but I didnt like it so I decided to go down the hboot downgrade route. When downgraded the Hboot from v. 2.002.000 (or something similar) to 0.98.000 the phone restarted, the Security was not on and i was left stuck in boot.

The phone is branded and I dont have another Android phone to try the Goldcard method to try and flash RUU and I am not too sure whetether there are any other alternatives.

When I try to flash a version of RUU, which I found for my carrier (TMO UK) it either says wrong ID or wrong HBOOT version.

Well that's a bit of a dilemma you have there. Please fill in;
1. You unlocked with HTCdev. Did you proceeded to install a custom ROM, installing Superuser? If so, did you wipe data/system/cache?
2. Did you manage to boot a custom ROM, if question one was true?

Try, "RUU_SAGA_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_14.01.401.2_Radio_20 .76.30.0835_3831.19.00.110_release_275068_signed" This is WWE unbranded. It updates my HKCSL (Hong Kong) unbranded. The question is, will it update a branded???

Sorry, I cannot provide a definite answer, and only provide one single thing that probably wont work for you.

There's one TMO UK RUU I can see at shipped-ROMs: RUU_Saga_TMO_UK_1.30.110.2_R_Radio_20.28b.30.0805U_38.03.02.11_M_release_180106_signed.exe

Now I don't know the Desire S, so cannot be certain whether this is the software version you want. But the radio version seems to match what you have, so I reckon it should be OK, and as it's TMO UK the CID should be fine. So it's really just a question of whether it will update with that hboot version (I don't know Saga hboot versions, so can't guess).

Hi guys,

First of all thank you for your replies.

I have not managed to install any ROMs, because I read that it would be better if I downgraded the HBOOT to 0.98.0000. So I did that and when I restarted to HBOOT the S was On and the bootloader was locked. The phone didn't boot because the hboot version is wrong for the version of the RUU currently installed.

Also, I am unable to install any RUUs as the phone is branded and I don't yet have a gold card.

Any suggestions what to do when I get the gold card? Will the RUUs install? I usually get ID error when the setup is trying to verify a signature.

Again, don't know if it will help... but
Create GoldCard without acces to the phone - xda-developers "You can make a Goldcard with any Android device." Is it true, will one created on another android device that work with your Desire S?
I wonder if Android Emulator (Android Emulator | Android Developers) would assist in creation of a goldcard?
Possibly install that "Goldcard helper" using instructions found at Freeware Lovers Blog: How to Install APK Files on Android Device Emulator

Yeah I'm going to try this http://androidforums.com/3864971-post11.html and attempt the creation of a goldcard using USB card reader only. If the EU RUU I'm looking at trying flashes, I'll know the goldcard is working. Kingston should sell gold plated 2GB microSD cards for this purpose

Update: As mentioned everywhere (Doh!) USB card reader wont work

Hey guys, I have an obligation to let you know if it worked or not and I did!

Today, I received the gold card, so I flashed the stock ROM right away, which changed the HBOOT version and the phone finally booted. My girlfriend won't kill me after all

Thank you all, the gold card was indeed the answer to this problem, so anyone with this problem, just create the gold card yourself or buy one as I did.
