Desire started playing up

Lurker
Ok, so today I went to check my emails on my Desire, on the Gmail app, and I knew there were newer ones than the ones it was displaying so I pressed refresh and the little sync icon appeared up on the taskbar for about a second then disappeared, and does this whenever I press it. So I cleared all the app data and now it's still doing it and all it says in my inbox is "Your email will appear shortly."

Also, Facebook won't update or display anything in my feed, in the feed it says "An error occurred while fetching data. [Not trusted server certificate]" and on the main Facebook screen it says "Cannot retrieve the notifications. Please try again later. [Not trusted server certificate]" I have had problems similar to this before and updating the app solved it so I went to open the Market app and that just closes after about one second! So I can't update either Gmail or Facebook to try and solve the problem. :( I've also tried the obvious turning the phone off and back on again. I have no idea what else to try?

EDIT: Thought I'd better mention the internet works fine on it, I can browse no problem, on WiFi or mobile internet.

it may be to do with 'Background data' and sync settings.. just give them a check :) i cant really think of what else it could be :/

Funnily enough I did turn off 'Background Data' yesterday to try and improve battery life, but have turned it on again since, maybe that has something to do with it. Doesn't account for the Market app closing almost immediately whenever I open it though afaik.

Try restarting the phone, if you haven't already.

Nevermind. My phone wouldn't respond to the power button being pressed last night so I took the battery out, when I started it up again the time was set to 00:00 so I set the time again, failed to notice the year was set to 1980. -_-;

Are Gmail and Market working alright now?
