Desire upgrade to ???

It depends on your budget, but the X is a new mid-ranger, the C a slightly older low-end handset. So out of those 2 I'd think the choice is clear, though there are no real reviews of the X yet as nobody's had their hands on one.

It also depends on what you require or prefer. Is the One X too big (or do you just not like non-expandable storage and non-removable batteries)? How tied to HTC are you - a lot of people here went to the S3?

How do you find the S2 togger ? im due an upgrade soon , s3 looks a bit too big , s2 would do the job for me , any issues ? read somewhere people were having problems connecting to wifi

Have to say it was fine on ICS 4.0.3 but the update to 4.0.4 has caused a couple of issues. Some of the widgets don't work on 4.0.4 and I had to search for alternatives. Battery drain also seemed to increase, but I have since wiped and reinsatlled all my apps afresh. So far so good.

The phone itself is fine, works well and it's a welcome change to have loads of memory for apps without having to root, repartition, use apps to SD patches. GPS is quick, the screen is very good, and everything just seems to work well. Have not rooted or flashed a custom rom to mine yet. The camera does suffer from a pink spot in the centre, but on real world pictures it isn't noticeable (only if your taking a picture of a white wall LOL) No issues with WIFI, connects to our home network every time, first time. Use it in the car for satnav. I like the size of the S2, big enough screen for me to see easily without being too big to carry about.

Sure the S3 is better, but I didn't want to pay out a lot - set myself a budget of

Not a dumb question at all.

As you'll probably discover the Desire is crippled by poor internal memory issues. Just try to install a few big games/apps and you'll soon have messages popping up about running low on space. You can get around it by rooting the phone, repartitioning the internal memory to move some space across for apps and then installing a custom rom. In the end I went with Mildwild V5. At the end of all this I had a Desire that worked like a dream and I was very, very happy with it. Indeed my wife has now pinched it off me and prefers it to her iphone which she has now passed on to our eldest daughter.

My experiences of the SGS2 so far (had it 3 months now) are:
Everything works out of the box. There is no need to mess about rooting and patching to get it to work. There is loads of space for apps.
The screen is great, love the size and quality of the display.
It is a bit quicker, although TBH my Desire wasn't slow after I put an AOSP rom on it and got rid of HTC sense bloatware.

I'm having a couple of issues with ICS V4.0.4 that I did not have on 4.0.3, nothing major but wish I hadn't installed the last official update now.

I didn't see the SGS2 as a big upgrade to the Desire at the time, but now I would not go back. It is a very, very good phone and I am happy with it.

I know with time we could talk you through sorting out your Desire for you (GPS issue etc) but you may decide tinkering is not for you and to just sell it on. It's your call but there are still users on this forum who will help you improve your Desire should you wish.

Again many thanks for the reply............

I am at the time when my youngest daughter is enquiring about getting a phone and we have a hand around system throughout the family...............rather than buy her one of the current models.

Was going to ask what the GPS is like on the S2....I am just a bit paranoid that it will be poor like my desire....think I mentioned before main use of the GPS is for Endomondo sports tracker.

Again many thanks for your time

Kind regards

Mike

PS Internal memory is a big concern for me on my desire.....would love to tinker will it but know the result would be a mess if it involves opening up the back and a soldering Iron !!! :o:o:o

Tinkering with the Desire is great, hop over to the All Things Root section and start reading (All Things Root sticky guide). Once read, re-read and read again, then start tinkering.

EDIT: No soldering irons required but you do have to take the back off at least once ;)

GPS is fine on S2. After I got mine I told a few friends at work about the deal. Seems it was an error and they ended up paying
