Desire Volume Buttons Stopped Working

I've had the Telus Desire for just under a week now, and everything about the phone was working great until yesterday when the side volume buttons just stopped working. I can't adjust the ringer volume on my home screens, or the media volume when I'm running any apps, or the in call volume either. I feel like I've accidentally triggered some volume lock, but I've searched for answers and come up empty.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what happened or how I can solve this? They were working just fine up until yesterday, and I don't believe I installed or changed anything since the buttons were working.
 
Turn off. Hold volume down button and power on. If it boots to a White screen that says fastboot, your volume buttons work. Doublecheck by pressing vol up or down to move up and down the menu. Do not PRESS power. Pull battery out to turn off.

If vol buttons work, problem is software. If not its hardware
