Desire z or HD

Hi everyone..
I am stuck between going for Desire Z or HD.
as price difference is not much, a lot of you out here might have to go through this same dilemma.
as Desire Z owners I would like to know your opinion.
thanks...:confused::confused::confused:

Hi guys! I am new to this forum and kinda new to Android. My main phone is an iPhone but I have periodically purchased and used the HTC Hero, Nexus One and Dell Streak.

I just bought an HTC Desire Z unlocked that works on AT&T 3G. Got to agree ... Desire Z is awesome! Love having the option of the physical keyboard. It such a solid design too. Don't think I'll be going back to the iPhone anytime soon.

I tried both out in a store and found right away that the Z felt more comfortable in my hand. Keyboard or not the HD was too awkward (for me) in single-handed use, which is essential. That's what swung it for me.

oh man, this is killing me. Unlike you, i can't test the phone before, 'cause here where i live htc doesn't exist, so i need to buy it online. what i can do is read reviews, watch videos, etc.. but it seems to be too little and i believe i'm not able to take this decision. I'm almost keeping my milestone, just to don't take a wrong decision, that i can regret in the future.

Despite the size of the HD, Z seems to be heavier.
Why HTC doesn't make the specs same? Why a 800mhz processor in devices that were launch almost together?
The hinge is really a problem? i saw a lot people complaining about it and others complaining about those people who see problem in everything.

thank you guys.

No "seems" about it, it is heavier. That's the price paid for the slide-out keyboard, and I don't actually notice it until I pick up my Hero. ;)

Manufacturers spec devices according to their requirement. The 4.3" display on the HD requires more "grunt" and more power. Take a look at reviews of both; almost all commend the Z for its battery life whereas the same can't be said of the HD. :)

No issues here.

I'm one of those complaining about those people complaining. The reason is that the people who complain seem to deliberately try to hold it in a weird way. I've seen a few videos showing people holding it in a way that no one would ever normally hold the phone. I've seen people describe holding the phone in similar unusual grips as well complain. None of these complainers ever complain that they hold it normally and had problems with the hinge. If you hold the phone normally, you should be fine for the most part. The position that may cause some difficulty is if you are lying on your back and holding the phone above you with the keyboard open. In this position, you just have to adjust your grip to prop up the screen. I find that in this position, my arms start to get tired regardless of whether the keyboard is open or closed.

The tension on the spring is loose to allow easy opening and closing of the keyboard. If you increase the tension, it will just make the keyboard harder to open and close. It will also cause the keyboard and screen to snap hard when opening and closing which some people do not like.

I'm not worried about it, i noticed that it's not possible, it can be seen easily. My worry is that when i'll take it off from my pocket, it can open one part and i pull another, breaking it, or i'm typing and the keyboard closes over my fingers, something like that.

when many people complain about a 'fault', it deserves a search, at least.

it's weird, cause the keyboard on the touch pro 2 is realy good and well done, great design. they could do it in the same way, but i'm not a engineer, so who am i to give some tips. =o)

thanks for the help, you all

I usually carry it in my holster. The few times I've put it in a pocket, I have not had any issues when taking it out of my pocket.

If the screen is facing up, there is no chance of this happening. My normal position is sitting up and looking down onto the screen, so the screen is facing up. The only way the screen will close in this position is if you apply some force to push the screen closed.

If the screen is facing downward like if you are lying on your back and looking up at it and you are holding just the keyboard half of the phone, gravity will force the screen to come down. I have on occasion tried typing like this. What I do is just adjust my grip so I have a finger hold up the screen as I type of my thumb. I find this is a rather uncomfortable position to use the phone because my arms will get tired holding the phone up regardless of whether I am typing or just reading.
If you are one who often lies on your back holding the phone above you, I'm sure, you can find a comfortable grip that also props up the screen with the keyboard open. If I can do it, so can you.
