Help Desk Home Problem after Froyo Update

I have the samsung dock, but don't want to use the Desk Home app.

The new official Froyo 2.2 release helpfully made the Desk Home App part of the standard build. There's no way to uninstall it (I guess it's time to root my phone?)

Even worse - when I get up in the morning I disconnect the phone and it is stuck in horizontal display mode. It cannot be rotated back to normal mode. The Auto-Rotate is on and toggling the setting does nothing. Only way I found to fix it is to power cycle the phone.

Not that's convenient - Force me to use an App I don't want to use and it buggy to boot!

yeah...i had an issue a couple weeks ago where with no touching by me...the phone went into that program and also stuck there...i could not go back into vertical view. it was stuck in landscape. an employee said your phone turned on and i looked and it was in desk mode with neither of us anywhere near it.

i finally turned it off and on and it went away..but it was a bizarre day.

If I connect and undock the phone in a short period of time, it works properly. But overnight the thing is stuck.

I figured out that if I undock the phone, redock the phone, then undock it a second time desk home closes out properly and the phone operation returns to normal. It appears that Desk Home gets launched and then never closes (which keeps the phone in landscape mode).

Figured out redocking only works 1 out of 10 tries. So after sitting in the docking station for a few hours, the phone is convinced it is always in the dock station and keeps restarting Desk home (even if I kill the process).

Only fix is to power off the phone. Argh!

And the Saga continues....

Decided to Root the phone and rename the Dock.apk file to remove the app (as mentioned in other forums like DroidX). Rooting the phone was easy. But the apk file does not exist in Froyo on the Captivate. Can't find any apk that looks like it is related to the Desk Home App.
