Desktop dock question

From all the pictures I have seen, I'm assuming the 3 gold pins on the side of the phone are for a desktop cradle to charge the phone. Well the wake button is on the same side of the phone. How is one to wake the phone up if the button is down in the cradle. Am i overlooking something?

If it's anything like the dock for the Droid, the Nexus will not be off or asleep. It will display time and temperature with your wallpaper in the background. After five minutes, it goes to an all-black "screen saver" mode, displaying only the time until you tap the screen and all the information comes back up. I love rolling over and being able to see the time and local temperature at a glance.

Probably a dumb question, but I'll ask since I've never owned a dock for an android phone. Is the dock just for charging, or does it have other purposes as well?

They can for example start a desk clock or a car home mode. Depends.

The Seidio desktop cradle I have for the Thunderbolt charges and if I'm running it to my computer it will mount the phone as well. I know with the TB I have to push the wake button to wake it up, That's why I was curious about the GN.

The HTC Rhyme's dock charges and plays audio through the dock speakers using Bluetooth. It's a neat feature to improve on sound quality and volume. No idea if the Galaxy Nexus dock will do that too.
