desktop icons and call log entries

how can i remove some of the desktop icons? and did they get there in the first place? i don't recall putting them there (and even if i did i don't know how i did it), four "SETTINGS" icons!!

also how can i selectively remove numbers/entries in the call log?I don't always want to clear ALL of the entries out all at once. Once in a while i don't know what keystroke or button i press but an options menu pops up for a particular entry and at the bottom of that sub menu is a choice "Remove from call log" ! but i don't know how to bring that up as i don't know what i pressed to start with!!

Is there a tutorial here on what the functions of the buttons on my ascend are?

Long pressing an icon will give you the option to remove it from your desktop, as will long pressing a call will give you the option to remove it from the call log.

how about clearing the download history, i understand it was a choice is 2.1 but dissappeared in 2.2!

Not sure if it's the same for 2.2, but on CM7 you can open the App Drawer -> Downloads, and check the downloads then click Delete.

If you can tell he what specific browser you have, I could tell you hoe to do it clearly. It depends on the browser.
