Root [DEV] Galaxy Nexus dump ICS

yea this would be really cool! :D i was messing with it myself and almost got it to boot! (it boot looped... got stuck on "M" logo) but, it didnt and no other solution (known by me) solved it. :( as for the rest of my attempts, they looped back into recovery... meaning they didnt boot at all.

thanks! :) if i can get it to almost boot that means isaac or ticker could pull this off with there hand behind there back! :p

it would be cool if i would have gotten it working, but its way out of my league so imma stick with stock based roms and work my way up later on lol!

Lol I have no clue on any dev stuff so at least you know something... Now just to get Isaac or tickerguy here...

Well, I tore it apart. At first glance, it doesn't seem like it's a huge departure from 2.3. This is a good thing. When the source is finally released, I think the Triumph should be able to see an ICS ROM (via CM9, probably).

I'll play with the system dump and see if I can't get it to boot. I'm busy with MIUI so this is at the bottom of my list (the very bottom).

Well I figured you were busy... But thanks!

It would be awesome to get this to boot!

Isaac, is there a place I can learn to make ROMs? I really want to mess with this, and it would be cool if I can port the SDK, any idea where I can learn this sort of stuff?

I have good computer experience, although in terms of programming, I can program in HTML, and want to learn a new language. Are there any programming pre-requisites for developing ROMs? I'm guessing there are, if so, which languages?

Sorry for all the questions. I really want to try out developing.

I would love to learn how to do those things too, but I don't know what to learn and where to start. Does anyone know of any resources that I can study from?

Well i'm interesting in ice cream sandwich porting now(no promises though), I will probably only get it to boot then it will be slow progress from there(because of lack of free time). I'm already done with my CM7 kernel, I just on tickerguy, or Isacc if he comes on, so I can build the kernel.

Edit: I'll be downloading the the imgs tonight....

My problem with this system dump is it's very device specific. Meaning it was built specifically for the omap4 platform/Galaxy Nexus hardware. We are a MSM7x30 type. I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if any of the userspace would work for our phone. It'll boot, but that's only the kernel. If this was a system dump for a phone similar to our board, there wouldn't be any problems (this is how I ported MIUI).

Now, like I said, it looks like Android 4.0 follows the same structure as previous releases. Once the source is released, we can tailor the source for our phone.

Should this help for porting ICS? It's a guide, I think to help port to different devices.

There's a lot of modifying to do(thats why devs stop half way through the project because it takes alot of time, and when your not receiving/accepting donations it gives you less motivation, thats why devs quit half way through the project, especially beginners). If you check out most ICS ports, almost everything is broken....

Is anyone else getting symlink errors when moving the extracted system folder to a portable device?
