Root Dev Needed... 2.1 Running on the Behold 2

I mentioned it before, The Behold 2 is more like the i5800 Galaxy 3. the one you listed has the Same Processor that's in the Spica and Moment. The Galaxy 3 has a 667MHz Qualcom.

You seem to be forgetting the MyTouch 3g
No, I didn't forget. I had a Brain to Hand Lapse of Coordination. I meant to list it INSTEAD of the B2 (As in "When the B2 came out , the only Android phones where Cliq, G1, and MTG3). Somehow I typed B2 again instead V_V

That is just about the LIMIT of what Google will do for an OEM or carrier.

And the HTC-built Nexus One getting 2.2 first. (Granted, that's a special case being as it's the "Google Phone")

And none of your arguments change the fact that Samsung has not demonstrated that they understand the value in updating their devices.

I agree with that 100%. See:
Now, there's no doubt that Samsung totally dropped the ball on their entry into Android. You won't get ANY arguments from me on that (Hell, Samsung will probably agree with that)

Absolutely 100% agree that Samsung, as of RIGHT NOW and everything leading up to RIGHT NOW, has totally, completely, utterly, and absolutely failed to support thier Android devices. If ANYONE argues that, they're on Samsung' payroll :-P

My point is DUE TO THE BACKLASH WE'VE SEEN SO FAR, it would be bad for business to CONTINUE to not support devices.

Why do R&D on products you've already sold?

To sell more of the ones you've already built.... Why throw away 20% of the units built (or charge half price or less on them to clear them out) if you can pay LESS for R&D (on an existing, "known" device vs designing and building a new one from "scratch") to update them and thus continue selling them at a decent markup? Obviously, the people who initially designed the B2 and handled the updates have a better idea of how to program the B2 than, say, a phone that's due out in October.

Probably a bad example, but look at game consoles: The XBox 1 lasted no time compared to the PS2. It came out later, and was EOL'd a LOT sooner (considering PS2s are still being sold new, and were being built as recently as Q1 2010)

Why? PS2 sold. XBox 1 didn't. Thus, MS axed the XBox 1 and replaced it with the 360 in a fairly short time-frame (comparively speaking). The 360 hich has had dashboard updates, hardware updates, feature updates, and has already had a longer lifespan than the original XBox all for one simple reason:

It sells.

The Behold II just didn't sell compared to other phones (there are numerous reasons for this). So, Samsung did the XBox method: Drop it and start on a newer one (Note: I said newer, not better ;->)

Back on track:

If Samsung continues NOT updating their phones, do you REALLY think people will continue to buy them? Of course not. Every review will be "Well, the phone has a lot of features, but with Samsung's track record on support, we can't recommend you buying this", which will in turn cause sales to drop.

Samsung's a company. They want to make money. If they find that NOT supporting existing devices causes them to LOSE sales, there's only two options: Support the devices (Consumer wins), or get out of the Android game (Consumer wins).

In the end it's in Samsung's best interest, financially, to at least provide SOME support for future devices. The B2 already made the news for possible class-action lawsuits. Of course it went nowhere, as expected, but it's bad PR. Bad PR == Bad Sales. Bad Sales == Less Money.

And we all know: Samsung Likes Money :-P

And Hell, maybe Google will step in and "force" Samsung to start supporting devices to keep Android from getting a bad name. (I don't see that happening, though.)

In the end, we all know one thing: Samsung screwed over the Behold II users by not supporting it the way they should have, or even half as wel as they should have. Plain and simple.

Has anyone tried contacting google to inform them of all the Samsung BS? If they start giving google a bad name what do you think will happen? Google will no longer allow Samsung to use Android, period!

I doubt there is anything Google can do for us. Nobody needs Google's permission to use Android! It's an open source project. I'm sure you need to pay license fees to Google to have "with Google" on your phone (which the B2 has), but I'm not sure if there are any obligations on the OEM's part associated with that. Anyway, it certainly won't hurt to contact Google, but I wouldn't get my hopes too high on anything materializing.

Well its a driver issue, so if it uses the same drivers wouldnt it be possible, also what if we take drivers from all three of the phones and combine them to make a working rom

That could be a possibility but we need someone to work on it though

So we would need a system dump of all 3 phones

Also if someone gets the odin image of the india behold 2 (galaxy i899) we could also just try flashing that and see what happens, though I doubt the signal will work because its cdma so we might have to do some work but its worth a try

Samsung Android. -

This site has android firmware, im gunna take a look at some of them see what I can do though I doubt its much, the site doesnt look like it has anything helpful. I miss BH_Man/Eugene

I looked at files from the site and they didnt look like anything that I could flash onto the phone, if someone has an old bh2 that they arent using and dont mine bricking I looked at the i899 (asian behold) and the i9000 (Galaxy S) because I believe that they are the closest the behold 2, I also downloaded bh_mans 2.1 dev link so maybe doing a combo of the files would work, but like I was saying I dont have a BH2 I can flash and risk bricking

In my opinion I dont think this will work but its the best idea I have and it comes at 2am

Also when the Galaxy S comes to T-mo at the end of this month I may try something with that but again I doubt it will work.

In other words, dont get your hopes up

I do believe a behold 2 system dump is somewhere laying around here in this all things root forum if not you can always ask Eugene_373 for one I'm sure he still has the original system dump for the bh2.

Just directly flashing galaxy i899 without at least tweaking the signal could be a bad idea though..

The only tough one to get is the i899 but maybe taking a look at the released source would do as well? Open Source - Samsung Mobile its a long shot that it would include the drivers necessary but might as well check and see right?

For the b2...you guessed right! For every other android phone it rocks! B2 is the only android phone without a working 2.1 rom so you figure it out...maybe the phone is so poorly made and programed that it really can't run 2.1 the right way. Remember I said run it right not run it at all!!

Source? There isn't even a 100% working 2.1 rom for it (original galaxy)! You sure you didn't misread galaxyS?

It's not 100% it's a cm6 port by drakaz. He said it's fast and stable

"Gaosp-froyo (CM6 port) is fast, stable, and sweet on our galaxy. Lot of tweak/settings added to fit our device. Nothing to see with eclair."

why was i cursed to get this phone... i shouldve done research... it looked so good on the shelf... i shouldve gotten the g1 or the mytouch instead. Now since theres no hope and im not planning on spending another couple hundred on a new phone, lets finish that 2.1 already ;) lol jk.. were all screwed

for reals man! it looked so appetizing at first >.<

i thought we sould finally catch a break with the vibrant, hoping we could port that over to the BH II, but no dice. :(

i heard the tmobile community talkin about that they were ended up pulling the 1.6 cuz there gunna end up coming out wit 2.1 even tho this might b another lie. like samsung has been doing 2 us, i seen the galaxy S n it looks nicee but **** samsung never buying another samsung fone after wut they did 2 us :(

They wouldn't have stopped mid-rollout of 1.6 just because they decided to come out with 2.1... I'm sure there are actually problems with it.

As far as surprising us with 2.1, even if they were to do so, I don't think they could do a quick turn around on it because it sounds like they haven't done any development on it (as evident by there being no drivers developed that are known of).

There are reception problems with the OTA release that was put out by Samsung, as well as some memory issues encountered by a couple of folks around.

the only way that they could surprise us with 2.1 is if there was some reason the galaxy s used the same driver as the bh2 and couldnt use it on the bh2 until the galaxy s was released due to some legal reason. which I doubt, so dont get your hopes up
