Root Dev Needed... 2.1 Running on the Behold 2

I truely and honestly don't think that's it.


I think Samsung actually thought "People buy the phone, and when they want newer, they buy newer". Heck, that's how it's worked for the past fifteen years of mobile phones, so why not?

NOW, though, they're screwed. They've probably pulled everyone off of B2 development to focus on the new phones, and it wouldn't make sense financially to re-assign them back again.

This leads people to drop not only the B2, but Samsung as a brand as Samsung doesn't look "reliable" on the Android Updates compared to other companies.

One can only HOPE that Android companies (not just Samsung) learn from this PR Flop, and ALL Android phones from here on out will get updated to whatever the hardware can handle.



And yes, this would mean the G1 should get 2.2 as well :-P
 
It really wouldn't be that hard to update the drivers for new versions of android. End of life, for atleast the 2 years after release (if we're still expected to pay for phones for 2 years they should atleast give minimal support for 2 years imo) they should release new current drivers. If somebody wants use them to make a rom, they can. And then users can update on there own at their own risk.

That won't happen, but it'd be nice.

I completely agree. Samsung consumer electronics of all types is now blacklisted in my household. I will never buy another Samsung anything after their outrageous BH2 behavior.
 
That said, they only promised 2.2. Anything beyond that is questionable. I personally think they will release Gingerbread, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Yeah fck samsung,i wont buy nothing from them.I sold Behold 2 for $160 and used that to get Mytouch Slide 3G,it was best decision i made.I kept Behold 2 cuz it had Amoled but after using Mytouch i realized that in some ways lcd is actually better and brighter.
I love Mytouch its as fast and snappy as Nexus and battery life is the best i ever seen,only thing i don't like about it is physical keyboard(which i never use).
I give same advice to everybody here,plus we have BHMAN making roms for Mytouch slide.
Galaxy S is looking good on paper,but samsung will sht on us like they did to Omnia HD,Galaxy,Behold 2 and probably other phone owners.
Its like buying ps3 and being told that they are not making no more games for it,lol.
I still check Behold 2 forums cuz i have alot of love for Behold 2 phone and what it could have been.
 
ya I hear ya lviv73! I was going to stick wit tmobile and get the N1, but my contract is almost up and I have decided to go with verizon on my sisters family plan and I will be getting the Droid X! I cant F'ing wait!
 
Android 3.0 has hardware minimums and it will be hard for samsung to drop support after froyo. Gingerbread requires 1ghz processor and a 3.5 inch screen.

How does setting a minimum make it hard for samsung to drop support? Just because they say you need a 1ghz processor and 512 gb of ram, doesn't mean every 1ghz processor will run it. And they could easily say "we don't think it will run stably/well, so we won't be updating. Please buy a Galaxy T which will run gingerbread flawlessly."

In regards to galaxy s. Samsung can not say that it won't work because it surpasses the minimum. Plus as many of these they put out its extremely hard to believe that they would drop support for all of them. all carriers in the USA basically got one and over seas as well. You can't logically tell me that they are going to drop support for this after froyo.

Hardware minimums set the minimum for them to run stable and smoothly. Samsung can't say anything logical to drop support after froyo with the hardware minimums in place when galaxy s meets it.

The only reason they even dropped support for this is because almost nobody bought it.

That & the fact that this isn't the first time they've pulled this BS. Anyone buy the original Behold? Big disappointment.

Have you ever tried installing Windows on a system that just meets minimums? That is neither stable nor smooth, and there is plenty of room for a manufacture to say "we won't be supporting that because it will not provide a good user experience. If you need this software, please upgrade to the _________, available at stores near you."

I sure as H$## can say that they MIGHT drop support after froyo. Just like you can't say that the certainly won't drop support.

And when did you become psychic? You don't know that's why they dropped support. And the simple fact is they have a track record of no supporting there devices. Not to say they won't change, but they have a history.
 
No, they pretty much dropped support because of bad sales.


It had bad sales. Other Samsung devices got updates sooner. Simple math.

Yes...simple math. Other devices got updates sooner, so the Behold 2 had bad sales. It's called commutativity.

Samsung Galaxy + Samsung Behold 2 + Samsung Moment got bad support. Samsung (Galaxy+Behold2+Moment) got bad support = Samsung (devices) got bad support.
Ergo Samsung devices are poorly supported. Distributivity.

Simple math.
 
bad sales????????? nah bro, if they wouldv'e held their word on updating the behold 2 to 2.1 then this phone would have gotten alot of costumers
 
maybe if we send them a nice letter about how there is a strong community of developers and enthusiasts who are interested in doing the legwork to upgrade the BH2 to 2.1, they will be kind enough to open up the security settings for us :)

this phone was shot in reviews even 2.1 wouldn't had brought enough money to profit off of it.
 
The Droid and the Cliq both got better reviews (and better advertising) than the entire T-Mo Android lineup COMBINED.

On top of which, when the B2 came out, T-Mobile had exactly 3 Android phones:

Cliq
G1
B2

Sprint and Verizon have always had a better line up (It's a bit more even, now), and thus always had better support FROM GOOGLE (Android 2.0 exclusive to the Droid, for example), as well as the Android community.

If the B2 had been "The Best Selling Android Device" for a month or two, you can be pretty damn sure Samsung would continue to update (and thus *SELL*) it. No sales == No reason (in their minds or finances) to continue spending money on R&D on what is considered a failed (from a sales-standpoint) phone.


Now, there's no doubt that Samsung totally dropped the ball on their entry into Android. You won't get ANY arguments from me on that (Hell, Samsung will probably agree with that)

Seeing as they plan to become the #2 maker of Android devices in Fiscal 2010, though, they *HAVE* to update the new devices they release, or they'll just be ignored (like T-Mo was for Android for all of 2009)

Again, simple math ;->

It's hard to take you nonsensical ramblings seriously, when they are so riddled with nonsense and mistakes.

You seem to be forgetting the MyTouch 3g. And how was Tmobile Ignored for all of 2009 if they were the only carrier with android phones for 3/4ths of that time?

Google support for individual OEM is really very limited (as I understand it, 2.0 wasn't supposed to be exclusive to Moto. They were just supposed to get it first. And since 2.1 came out right afterwards, there was no reason for anybody else update to it (they aren't even considered separate versions).) That is just about the LIMIT of what Google will do for an OEM or carrier.

And none of your arguments change the fact that Samsung has not demonstrated that they understand the value in updating their devices. Its that simple...if they did, they'd support all there product line. Dropping unpopular phones hurts sales of popular ones. You're very argument works AGAINST them supporting future phones. Why do R&D on products you've already sold?
 
Hey guys Samsung is Releasing a newer version of the BH2 to India and it could have stock 2.1 android and could not but if it does have it I think we would be able to get it working on our BH2.

The other version is slightly better than the bh2. It has a 800 mhz processor and removes Cube UI and is CDMA. Check the latest Phandroid news for more info. Hopefully it has 2.1 Android or 2.2 so that we can have it. It may not be over for us yet.
