Root Dev Needed... 2.1 Running on the Behold 2

I am working on having tmob replace my BH2 with a Galaxy S. Seems to be working for a decent amount of people, and if I don't have to send my phone in, I would be more than happy to mail you my BH2 for free (+ shipping).
 
I dont understand the fixation on 2.1. It has been a long time since Froyo has gone AOSP and my understanding it is more friendly to porting. If the point of getting a new ROM is to get the latest and greatest, then 2.1 will still leave you lacking, just like you are now with 1.6.
 
basically because 2.1 is already started and everyone just wants something so they arent getting picky, 2.1 has more apps, plus live wallpaper so its something.
 
Besides, you could use 2.1 as a "launch board" for 2.2 once it's running.

2.1 and 2.2 on the B2 both still have the same problem: Drivers.


So........... if the EXISTING 2.1 can be made to work (via custom drivers, kernel hacks, whatever), then it can be updated/ported/whatever you want to call it to 2.2 a tad easier than re-starting everything from scratch.
 
I'm guessing the guys at Cyanogen don't want to touch the Behold 2?

My cousin is running FroYo/ 2.2 on his G1 which has half the processing speed of the BH2, yet Samsung and T-Mo insist the BH2 can't handle anything more than 1.6.

If you're serious about needing a behold 2, just send me a PM with your address. I will send you my own personal one. I haven't used it since a couple of days after the final announcement made by Samsung that they weren't going to honour their word. It currently has one of your 1.6 roms on it and it's unlocked. I appreciate all of the efforts that you have already put into this phone. The only way I think I can get any satisfaction with from having been duped into believing that they would be honourable in my opinion, is to help however I can to get this off the ground again.

Hit him up on twitter or pm him he doesn't come by this forum often as he is fully focused on his new baby and vibrant development when he finds time. he has even stopped dev on the slide which he still has because there's no time for both.
 
My only problem is, I don't want to have something that I might get a weekend or a day to work on once a week... Doing so to me, is like taking advantage of the situation.

I don't mind working on this, but I just want to be super clear that it might be a slow process on my part...

Right. I wouldn't mind parting with my BH2 for a month or 2. Even if all the folks (4 or 5 of us?) volunteering to let Eugene work on the port with their own phone organized a relay, he'd have at least one BH2 to play with until nobody cared any more.

Well, the main thing is I've not had time to even Dev. on the Slide & I still have this Phone.. Now that I have the Vibrant, most my time goes to that, but my wife goes back to work in 2 weeks & after this point even the Dev. time I get on the Vibrant will even be cut down to weekends only..

Thus the reason why I wanted to make sure no one expect anything over night..

Well thats one thing we got is time and patience! Thanks for at least not forgetting about the Behold 2, and thanks for all the hard work invested! And I hope and would love to see 2.1 Running on the Behold 2 because every person on this forum knows the phone hase no problem handling it!!!;) And not to forget anyone who has made this phone in my opinion a great phone THANK YOU TO ALL!!!
 
Hey man, 2.0+ would be a nice Christmas present if you *think* you get get something running by the end of the year.

Truthfully though, assuming that you were the only person working on the Behold 2 and given what resources are currently available (ROM images for other phones on the market and what not), could you get a stable 2.1 or 2.2 port on the BH2 given enough time? Or would the build always be flawed due to lack of official driver support from Samsung?

There is no way to tell. He may be able to code something that works flawless, but then again he may not. It all depends.
 
Guys I think I', just going to bow out of this one... I honestly just dont think I'll have the time.. or at least few a few months anyways,

could you post the one that is out of emulator mode and with market so i could try out some 2.1 apps?
