Developer options in settings

Hi everyone. I returned my GN3 a few weeks ago and was given a new one because o's fame issues I was having. I now see a section in the settings menu that says developer options... I didn't see this section in the phone I returned. Can anyone tell me what this section is for and if I need to worry about it or not? Thanks😊

Ignore it. It is for exactly what it says. It is accessed by going from a home screen settings>general >about device and then repeatedly tapping "Build number". Going back to general gives you the new option of "Developer options". Leave it all alone, it is for developers to trace screen swipes, disable graphics acceleration allow USB debugging (needed to Root) and other weird and wonderful settings. However it does appear your Note 3 has had it accessed before are you sure it is a new one and not a reconditioned one?

I assumed it was a new one because I purchased the first one and returned it within 14 days at the VZW store. The clerk said it was new. I was thinking that it may be one of those developer edition ones, but I wasn't sure...... I doubt that it could be used as the phone is fairly new. Or could it be used? 😯

Unless someone says otherwise, the dev options are not enabled by default.

I agree, to access them you have to repeatedly tap build number, as I described. I think the actual number of taps is eight for a Note 3. It has been a similar procedure for all my Galaxy phones from the SGSII, SGSIII, SGS4 and now the Note 3. I only use it to enable USB debugging so it will connect to Odin (a PC flashing application) to flash ROMs etc. That is why I asked if your sure it was new. If I were you (and I'm not), and the phone works fine, is pristine in appearance I would not be too bothered, annoyed with the sales rep, but otherwise unconcerned.

Precious, just interested, have you looked to see if your device is rooted? You can download any number of root apps in the Play Store for free.
Other than enabling USB Debugging, the only reason I use Dev. Options is for turning off all animations which can sometimes help speed things up.

There are no flaws on the phone and it looks brand new... I watched him unbox it and all. I called the store before I went in and asked if they had any new phones available and the clerk said yes... In so confused😟

How do I check to see if the phone is rooted and what's USB debugging?

It's not rooted.... I have no interest in rooting it, but I am interested in this developer options section. Idk why, but I just am.

Hehe. Once you start playing you won't stop you know, before you know it you'll be installing custom ROMs and kernels.

Seriously, most of the options in there are pretty self explanatory. Things like killing a process when closed can make the phone slow down. It is there so a developer can test their app without interference from other running processes. USB debugging is to use the SDK (Samsung Development Kit) to fix bugs in code from a PC, and also connect the phone to a flashing app called Odin on the PC. Other options like force rendering use the CPU to render graphics rather than the GPU. Most of the settings are for developers only and although can be toggled on or off are there for them only. My advice is don't touch them unless you know what you're doing.
