Device cannot be rooted

MSAKK

Lurker
Hi,

I have a weird problem, I have been trying to root my device but it doesn't want to. I used the Easy Rooting Toolkit and Unlock Root, but both failed to access system files as I learned from the errors, I don't want to use Odin anymore as it bricked my phone once when trying to root and I think it was because of it cannot access system files as well and had to send it to Customers Service to fix it.

Is it possible that my device has some kind of protection preventing root, like my firmware or something?

I am on Android 2.3.4 (JPKH8).

Thanks,

I'm worried about using something involving Odin again as I said, next time they won't be repairing it on the warranty, isn't there another safe way?

Using Chainfire's cf-root method through Odin is far and away the safest, most reliable way to root your phone.

That is the safest way!

Your problems with Odin are precisely because you did not use this method.

Edit: Bugger! Ninja'd again! :)

You're too slow old boy! Cut down on the wine, women and song..... particularly the song! ;)

I can't remember KH8 at all.
Before diving in, give us your details in settings>about phone for:
model number
android version
baseband version
kernel version
build number

I think we might be dealing with the... Samsung Galaxy SII i9100G variant.

If this is the case MSAKK, DO NOT USE THE DUMMIES GUIDE mentioned above as the normal Galaxy SII, i9100, kernels and ROM's will not work on the "G" version.

See here for rooting for the "G" variant:-

I was wondering the same butty, which was why I also asked for his model number from the "about phone" screen

Model number: GT-I9100G
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband version;I9100GDZK5
Kernel version:2.6.35.7 root@DELL81 #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.JPKH8

is it a variant?

Yeah its a variant. That'll be why your phone got bricked and not because of Odin so you shouldn't be put off using it again.
There are ways to root and roms for you're phone here

To be honest its probably Samsung's fault as they bring out about 20 different phones with the same name. Maybe its a conspiracy, the more people who have to pay to get their phone sorted the more money they get (my view, not the forums)

OMG!!
how come I didn't notice that all tutorials I was watching didn't have "G" in it, I guess I'm so stupid.
Now I know why my phone got bricked as I was flashing i9100 kernels and was expecting it to work.
Thanks for your help guys, I will go now and watch read some topics but on my "G" phone this time.
The only problem is that all ROMs I intended to use are i9100 compatible only, like Cyanogenmod, and that "G" development is very rare.

Agree, which is precisely why I think we are seeing a lot of people on the forum with bricked phones during rooting, flashing, etc.

Too many variants, different regional firmwares, etc.
Oh, for my old Nexus 1 (sold and regretted it ever since :()
