Help Device driver failed to install

I can't get the ball rolling on this official 2.1 update. I downloaded and installed the new update utility, and get to the step where it asks me to plug the phone in to confirm the driver, and windows says it failed to successfully install the driver and I'm stuck.

What now?

edit: actual message is "Device driver software was not successfully installed"

I tried uninstalling updater and reinstalling it, no dice. Have rebooted several times in the process.

i'd go into your device manager and delete all drivers that have the word 'samsung' in it... then reinstall the updater.

i can get it to the screen where it says start software download, but when i start it, it doens't move.

after two and half hours of unistalling, reinstalling, and restarting, finally got it to work

I have the same problem with the failed driver installation. It hangs at the phone --> PC connection screen for a long time. I've tried reinstalling everything multiple times. How did you get your upgrades to work?

Also Win7 x64

Uninstall everything that says "Samsung" on the programs and features list, then re-install the swupdate program.

At least for my wife's Moment, Windows 7 was attempting to get the drivers from Windows Update instead of the installation. The fix was to manually run the driver install that was placed in C:\Program Files\Samsung Electronics\SWUpgrade\Drivers. The executable installed for me (once I unplugged the USB cable again). I started the upgrade installer again and followed the instructions, including removing the battery again to force it to reinstall the drivers. I did have to view the driver installation status to cancel it running out to Windows Update again, but it then installed correctly.

Hope this helps someone!
