Root dGB install help please...

Damn it! I work with computers, and have done for a long time, I understand a hell of a lot of stuff but blow me if I'm not having trouble getting dGB on my phone.

I've had an O2 branded Desire (AMOLED) for about 2 yeears now and a recent OTA upgrade simply stole too much memory. It's now getting beyond a joke as to how little memory I get to use. I would buy a new phone but there's nothing that interests me - I could pay money and get pretty-much the same performance as I have now (albeit with the memory problem fixed). So, it was time to bite-the-bullet.

I rooted the phone without an issue (many thanks for the copious guides SUroot et al.) and I ran GParted and got a shiny new 1GB partition at the end of my 32 GB SD card. I made it ext4 and I can mount it as a drive from my Linux machine (so I assume it's o.k.). Then I backed-up and cleared/factory reset the phone and installed dGB from the SD card. When I run QSI I get "Information Unavailable" for my A2SD Storage (which is a bugger).

Also the System Storage shown is 250GB (190 free). This leaves me with the standard 147MB free so when I start putting my apps back on I run out of space pretty-quickly.

Can some kind soul please tell which bit I missed because I really like to look of the dGB UI but until it works as a phone I've had to go back to the O2 Froyo I was running before - you can't believe how relieved I was that Nandroid backup works :D

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

That ROM doesn't use an ext partition unlike many others.
The rom is designed to be small, so 60mb I think it was.

The idea is to change your hboot so you only use the internal memory for stuff rather then relying on the memory card.
I believe internal is faster too. Though I guess that depends on your sd card.

like Tyseyh has said, dGb is a rom for advanced users. To get the best from it you have to s-off and change the hboot. If you want something similar that uses a2sd+ and your partition, then redux is what SUroot based this rom around.

As Tyseyh says. You need S-Off to change hboot. See the root memory faq from the All Things Root Guide sticky post for information.

Edit: damn, ninja'd by shauny :)

Wow, excellent service! Thanks chaps, I'll get onto that after work today. I know I could just drop a different ROM on but I quite like the idea of dGB (and the support team seem very keen :-) )

Thanks for the help chaps, managed S-OFF, a new MTD and dGB in the end. I did have a couple of issues when applying TiBackup which killed the Phone app and needed me to restart the process - I just learned to not restore anything unless I really needed it.
Loving the new ROM - especially the space. I've taken to moving stuff to SD card just to be perverse (I'm guessing this is O.K. on dGB since it doesn't do the A2SD+ stuff ?). With all my old apps and a load of new ones I have over 200MB free :) (prior to ROM I had just over 10MB...)
Thanks for all the help and the guides, you are lovely people.
