Root DHD bricked after root attept

Hello,

First of all I want to apologize if there is another thread with this same issue but from what I've search there aren't any, except this one from which I couldn't understand the steps.

I will start by detailing the problem.

I rooted my phone using aahk-12062012. Everything went perfectly and it was booting perfectly but it had a flaw; the speaker was not "making any sounds". Nothing was going out the speaker starting from ringtones and ending up with vol-up/vol-down sound. The headset, however, were working fine. After some search I've noticed that the issue must've been due to the fact that I haven't used "Restore to Factory Defaults" from the settings.

After I did that and erased the SD card as well I wanted to re-root and install the ROM accordingly (hoping that the sound will come back).

I started the .cmd file accordingly and during installation the phone got disconnected form the PC (USB cable issue, it I kept it in a certain position it won't work). Unfortunately for me this issue broke the installation and as expected the phone is not starting anymore.

I've tried the "Factory Defaults" from HBOOT but nothing really happens just the white screen with the HTC green logo. The "Recovery" menu also shows a phone with a red triangle over it and from what I recall it's a default HTC thing meaning that this device is not rooted (correct me if I'm wrong).

At this point I'm out of ideas and I don't know exactly what to do in order to get it fixed.

Here are the details from HBOOT:

ACE PVT ENG S-OFF RL
HBOOT-0.85.2425
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.03.03.26_M
eMMC-boot
Apr 12 2011,00:55:45

Looking forward for any helpful advices. Thank you in advanced.

I think the reason that the sound wasn't working was because the AAHK downgrades the firmware on the phone to an older version.

As you are ENG S-Off, it should be straight forward to sort the problem out for you.

You should be able to do this:

1)download clockwork - cwm-5.0.2.7-ace.zip
2)rename it PD98IMG and place it on your sd card
3)boot to hboot and allow it to update. when it finishes, reboot
4)remove PD98IMG and place the custom rom on the sd card
5)you can get to recovery from the hboot menu
6)flash your custom rom :)

Before you go for it though, let me get this double checked - we will be back to you soon!! :)

Hello D-U-R-X,

Thank you for your reply. I've managed to fix this issue after "Googling" the whole day for everything that poped into my head. With some luck I did manage to get it right. I will post below how I did it because maybe it will help others that hit the same wall.

At first, as I wrote, I had AAHK version 12062012 (which I managed to find it here). Since I could enter HBOOT, I pluged-in the phone, went into aahk-12062012\tools\win and opened a command prompt to that folder. Since AAHK comes with a recovery image as well (found in tools\recovery\<some_long_name_.zip) I copied recover.img into tools\win folder and executed the following line in the command prompt:

Code:
fastboot.exe flash recovery recovery.img
Now I had the recovery all working. Basically all I needed was the ROM which I've copied on the SD and ran the "Install zip from SD". I have to mentioned that I also used Super Wipe before installing this new ROM.

After the whole installation was complete I managed to boot the phone and the speaker is working as intended.

I hope this is considered as a small tutorial and not as spam due to the referral link stated.

Once again, thank you D-U-R-X.

Hey thecrazyman - no worries!

Thanks for sharing the details of how you sorted it... you have done exactly what I have suggested, but a manual method. The way I have suggested, the phone would think that there is an update and apply it itself. It would then do what you have and flash the recovery.

Don't worry about the link - there is a link to the same place in the All Things Root Guide sticky :)

As I said, thanks for sharing - it all helps people in future :)

Thank you.

If I'd go for ICS AOKP I'll just have to copy it on the SD and use the recovery to:

1. Wipe everything
2. Install the AOKP

Is that correct?

Also, in the author's description he's stating that people shouldn't use back-up programs such as Titanium Back-up due to the fact that it might cause stability issues. What's your suggestion regarding this, since you've already "played" with this ROM.

PS: I'm sorry if these questions are somehow noob questions but I haven't rotted any phone until today basically I am a noob in this domain.

No need to worry mate... here to try and help you out :)

You should ALWAYS wipe and then install (best practice)... if you want, you can first make a backup of your current settings. I always make sure that I back up my current settings, so that should something go wrong, I can restore my system :)

I guess you mean IceColdSandwich? I think what they mean about Titanium Backup is that restoring backups of apps can cause stability issues, due to any data associated with the app. I use Titanium Backup to back all apps/data up... you shouldn't have a problem. Perhaps use the market Google Play to restore your apps?

Thanks ;)

I thought about installing them via Google Play but after that I'll need to configure them accordingly (mail, messengers etc.) so it may take a while.

I think I'll try it out tomorrow - ICS AOKP. What could possibly go wrong that's worse than what happened today with the recovery? Worst case scenario I go back to Android Revolution HD (what's currently on my DHD). Right? :)

If you back up and something goes awry in flashing the new ROM, you just restore your current set up!

You might like to download apps from the market to back up your SMS/call log (if you want to keep texts/call logs) :)

Yeah well...that's a little bit too late for back-up since they got all "lost in the wind" with this ROM (my first root). I don't mind they were only SMS and call logs basically nothing important (or at least I can't remember having something important :D).

Anyway, I'll play with this tomorrow and get back to you with the status.

Thank you once again for all the help.

Hi,

Well, I've installed AOKP and it's working perfectly so far. I still have to see how to get more widgets and how to decrease the Weather's font since it's way too big but overall it's awesome.

It may be my enthusiasm but it seems like it's moving faster than 2.3.5.

You won't be able to get the Sense widgets... you can pretty much replicate the same things with various widgets from Google Play though :)

beautiful widgets and its matching animation package are a nice addition to any AOSP rom when youre used having a clock/weatehr widget on your main homescreen.

as for titanium, you are generally pretty safe in backing up/restoring user installed apps+ their associated data.

when you can run into trouble, and the reason for the recomendation not to use it,is when you attempt to restore system data or apps, expecially across roms with very different frameworks(like stock sense GB and AOSP ICS ).

restoring system data and apps will typically cause force ccloses, lag, and other unpleasant experieces.

im running ice cream sammich myself(well, atm ive got the jellybean rom on my phone, but ics is my usual rom). it is an exceptionally nice, smooth, functional rom for the DHD
