Help DHD Car Panel Keeps popping up!!!!

For those of you suffering issues here how many are using the car charger? The car charger is designed to do exactly as you describe...opening up the car panel and/or putting all calls to speaker phone. The mini usb end of the charger that goes to your phone is designed differently to your standard mains charger that came with the phone. It bridges certain contacts in the handsets female micro usb port. Is the problem that this continues to happen long after you unplug your handsets from the car chargers?

If this is a feature of the phone, why has it started happening to people randomly?

I have 3 chargers and have been using them since i got the phone, one is the one that came with the phone, one is a car charger and one is an extra USB that i have at the GFs place.

All of a sudden last week in the middle of the night i wake up to my screen lighting up the room, and the car panel active, i turn the panel off, lock the phone and try to fall back to sleep, however a few minutes later same thing happens again.

The next day i get on Google and find this forum, and from that i disable the car panel from auto starting through the dock settings, however that only fix one of the 3 problems. The screen still randomly wakes up, and the phone answers with speaker phone on - and it doesn't make a difference if the phone is on charge(tested on all 3 cables...) or not.

I have also tried all the suggestions above, only thing that works is turning the auto setting off, but as mentioned, that only fixes 1/3 of the problems.

Sounds to me like a feature gone wrong, which is causing frustration and the battery is not lasting very long, with the screen turning itself on all the time....

Hi Guys,

I am also having this issue on DHD.

Mine problem started when I updated to 2.3.3.

I have disabled the auto-start on the Car Panel, cleaned the USB port from all dust and dirt and reset to factory settings.

My phone still lights up every 30 secs and the speakerphone is activated whenever I make/receive a call.

There has got to be a fix for this.

Is there any way to rollback to 2.2?

Guys can I also ask if you keep Bluetooth on at all? If you have accidentally chosen a laptop with bluetooth as the default device under SETTINGS>DOCK and the phone detects it in the vicinity this will also activate the dock and/or turn the screen on as well as keep the speaker phone on as the phone will detect the lack of audio capability on that particular BT connection.

Can I also ask if any of you use the app doubleTwist? Apparently this app and others like it can cause the screen to turn on:
Screen turns on at random

Can I suggest Clearing Data in the Locations app SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS>MANAGE APPLICATIONS>ALL then see what happens?

Here is more information of wake locks and their states:
PowerManager | Android Developers

I have also requested to see if anyone can point me to an app that logs wakelock states and can also if possible prevent the phone going into full wakelock at random here:

For me no, Bluetooth is turned off, only BT device my phone has connected to was my previous phone to transfer contacts.

For me no, never heard of it. There was however a Google maps update recently that i downloaded and i thought that may be the issue, so i uninstalled the updates and that gave me a glimpse of hope, but screen still turned itself on, less frequently though...

Have just tried this on the three locations apps (Locations, Locations Launcher & LocationsWidget) & restarted, all good so far, only been a minute or so though...

This would be good, could pin point the app right away.

Think i may of found something, check on the Android Marketplace for "BetterBatteryStats" or do a Google search and you should find the developers post.

Not sure i fully understand it yet and if its what we are looking for, but i have it set up to display 'partial Wakelocks' and from a custom reference time, and the item at the top of the list is 'WiFiService'

My WiFi is always on, and is connected 90% of the day, only time it is not is when i'm driving. I'm going to do a test overnight and tomorrow day and turn the WiFi off and see if it helps, and at the same time run the BBS and see if anything else is waking the phone up by itself.

I looked into BetterBatteryStats but it just focuses on partial wakelocks which doesn't involve turning the screen on a fullwakelock turns the screen on and that is the issue at hand. :shrugs:

Code:
PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK CPU On* Screen Off Keyboard Off

Another idea I've had is to download Spare Parts and under Activity/Process management change the state to Aggressive and see what happens then.

Well I had the same problem... Car Panel popping up like crazy, even when I was writting a SMS it popped out geeting me out of the sms window.... it sucked! and also when i "pick up" the phone it was in speaker mode -.-'' (annoying), but i get ride of the problem just updating the software and the issue is gone... well for the moment...! :D

Tried spare parts and put on aggressive, however home screen kept on re loading after i tried to open mail, so changed it back.

Phone software or App software?

Screen turned itself on a lot last night while i was sleeping, went from 70% when i went to bed, and woke up with it on 34%

Have you considered rooting? I reckon that would solve the issue and its quite easy to go back to stock if required to send it back for warranty if it doesn't solve it. I know you feel you probably shouldn't have to but having heard it can take a while to get through the UK repair centre, it could be a solution ensuring your not away from your phone.

My phone has just started having these 3 problems for about a week.

I charge my phone through the same USB cable, but either through laptop or mains plug. From memory, I think the Car Panel comes up only after I take out the phone from the laptop-charge session.

Although I don't use calls regularly, it will/does get annoying whenever I do make calls.

Display I'm not too worried about at the moment. It's mainly just pure annoyance at the 3 problems coming about randomly...

If the screen is lighting up, sounds like you might have a rogue app running in the background somewhere.

Not sure about the speaker phone, it might be worth giving HTC a call....

I ended up giving HTC a call anyway, cos something was draining my battery like mad; I had to charge it to full 3 times all in one day (yesterday).

They advised me to do a factory reset, told me to move apps that I use to SD card and back up anything I wanted to to SD Card too.

Did that, problem seems to have stopped - *touches wood* - but the bad thing is only about 2 of the several apps I downloaded before were kept on the SD card. Spent a good hour re-personalising my phone back to how it was!

Good news overall though, is that the speaker-phone problem has ceased, phone stops lighting up and turning car panel kit off automatic start-up is working now!

Thank you for all your help, anyway :)

Had same prob: car panel starting randomly, backlight turning on, calls to speakerphone. This started after I for the first time used the usb internet pass through connection. So it for sure is somehow related to use of the usb port. Tried all the suggested fixes of resetting the phone, cleaning the female plug (gently!) with a toothpick, and also compressed air, without results.

As a last resort I turned the phone off, removed the battery for 5 minutes and reinserted it, turned phone on again. Problem gone! Surprisingly simple, but since it worked for me, maybe it'll work for others too?

Based on the above I'm not convinced it's a mechanical issue with the plug, it could be a "stuck status" of some kind that only resets when all power is removed.

Tried removing the battery and restarting it

The problem didnt go away.

I will send an email to HTC now.

After that,i guess factory restart will be the only option left

Will let you guys know if they let me know a fix for this

Hello guys,
I was dealing with this issue for an hour too. But, I just FIXED the issue by doing a change in the application's settings:
open the application (Car Panel) -> open the Settings menu -> go to the Car Kit section -> Disable the Auto Lunch.
I guess the problem was cause by the charger or an update, not quite sure.

Hope it works for you too,

Mine is completing this annoying hat trick too, gonna try the car panel settings now and see if that helps
