Root DHD help needed

Hi All,

New to Android after nearly 4 years with iPhone.

Foolishly upgraded phone to new software out the box not realising this means can't 1 click root etc.

I am on 2.2.1 now. Mainly want to root so can't install adfree for now but looking to gingerbread once get more confidence also.

Modding/hacking/jailbreaking is not new to me at all but seems most of the android guides assume some sort of prior knowledge about android of which i have none.

Anyone point me to guides with step by step on how to downgrade and root and then install custom roms to? All guides seem to be a little complex in terms of "use these programs" and then a basic step by step rather than something a little more detailed for us iPhone to Android noobs where jailbreaking was quite simple in comparison.

Awesome. Thanks. Those guides are great. Got all the way to the end then got a CID error at point should have installed downgraded rom. Looks like that might mean i need a goldcard.

Question: is the goldcard just for purpose of downgrading and then I can go back to original SD card after? Or would I need to transfer everything to new card? Gps maps, photos, music etc?

A goldcard is just your sdcard with a few lines of code altered. Its not permanent (you can reformat aftereards if you want) and it doesn't interfere with the normal usage of the card.

Well, followed the goldcard directions to the tea. Worked fine right up until put it back in the phone (used card reader on pc) and the phone now says the card is blank. Put it back in the PC and the PC also now says it's blank. Whoops. Should have used a new card. No idea what was on the card that i've now lost haha.

Not happy.....but not sad either. Just have to figure out what went wrong. Have no idea at this stage though.
