Root DHD Root Problem please help

Right... got that bit wrong... you need to have the most up to date version of HTC Sync on your computer, make sure the phone does NOT have USB Debugging enabled and I think you need ADB installed - here is a link (albeit for a different HTC phone - that should not matter, as you are doing the same thing to your DHD) on how to run the RUU

That link does not take you to ADB can you check
i have installed the latest HTC sync and antivirous disabled and phone is in charge only mode and USB Debugging disabled

ok this is not working i think we need to try something elese.
how about updating to the latest radio?
again i need guidence on how to do this
thanks

The RUU contains the radio - when you say it is not working, what do you mean? Is it that you can't get the RUU to run at all? Does it start and then give you an error?

There are a couple of other ways of flashing a radio (the only one I know about involved getting ENG S-Off first). Flashing radios is a little more dangerous than simply running an RUU.

Just can't get it to run it just gets as far as preparing setup and gets to about 100% of the install shield wizard and then just closes with no errors so the ruu does not run at all. I am almost certain it's a radio issue as the phone was working fine before.

I think that it could be that you haven't got all you need installed... I can't quite remember, but I think you need ADB / Android SDK installed on your computer... will see if Scotty can comment :)

As I said, I can't remember if you need to have other stuff installed and I've PM'd Scotty to ask him to pop his head in to this thread...

i believe something on your PC is preventing the ruu from running. possibly your antivirus is finding is as a threat?

if it closes right away, without letting checkmark even the first "i understand the risks" screen, then fault is nothing to do with drivers or the device.

if youve allready tried redownloading, then id prolly suspect something to do with the PC.

you can try disabling all firewalls and antivirus,as well as any other program that can communicate with the phone. i dont think you want htc sync fully installed, they tell you to install it to get the drivers, then uninstall it to run the utility.

i also thot that the phone had to have usb debugginf enabled  so im not 100% sure how accurate that link is.

if you can disable things and get the ruu to run,or possibly try on a different PC,then we can always extract rom.zip from the RUU and upload it for you.

you should hopefull be able to download that, verify the md5,and then flash it from your sd card in hboot :)

ok,the "rom.zip" from the sense 3.0 RUU is uploading to this link: http://www.androidfilehost.com/main...60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed.zip

im not sure if that site will let you download while its uploading,so if you ahve trouble give it a couple hours.

you will simply download, rename to PD98IMG and place on your sd card. boot to hboot, and it should find the file and ask you to update.

if it doesnt find the file, the common reasons are:
1)incorrect sd card format(MUST be FAT32)
2)incorrect name(phone MOST see PD98IMG.zip,wich means namd to "PD98IMG" if youre using windows that likes to add,and hide, the file extension.

im off to work, but we will all try and watch in case you have trouble :)

ok just to update you i tried the ruu on another pc running windows 7 it worked but could not find the phone i tried every way i could think off but it would not see the phone even tried compatability modes. so it has to be some thing to do with my pc i disabled everything but still no joy, so now i am downloading the rom and am going to try that i will update you as soon as i have done that

Ok heres another update i managed to download ok and ran the update on the phone everything installed ok and the phone finally asked me to reboot. after which the phone came on as normal but it still does not find any networks and when you do it manualy it says error while searching for networks.
where do we go from here?
also the singal bars have an x above them
the hboot screen now shows this

ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-2.00.0027
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.14.04.28_M

are you sure the sim is good? do you have another orange phone you can test,or know of anyone else on a sim card network whose sim you can try in your phone?

you could try getting into the diagnostic menu by dialing *#*#4636#*#* from the phones keypad. if you can get to that menu, double check that the phone is not accidentally set to some sort of cdma service

you also may make sure the back cover is on the phone.. i dont know about the DHD,but the thunderbolt, and rezound, and other htc devices do use the back cover as an antenna of sorts, and you wont get reception without it in place if the DHD is set up that way.

failing the above,a call to your service provider may be in order. they will have you remove the battery and sim for a few minutes,do a factory reset(so make sure the phone is stock, with the stock recovery),and possibly some other troubleshooting steps.

there is nothing that you could have done to the phone by rooting it or running RUUs,so my first instincts really want to say its simply an issue with the sim.

Well its just goes to show that some problems are simple to solve my mistake was not having the back cover on where i had been constantly removing the sd card it was easier to leave it off.
you learn something new every day
thanks a lot for your help
now do i upgrade to ICS if so what version?

Good to know that you are now sorted.

Scotty - the DHD does use the sim cover part as an antenna :)

Sometimes issues where people have good reception most of the time, but it drops other times is solved by putting a thin bi of card behind the SIM card to make sure that there is a good contact between the SIM and the phone! :)

awsome! im very glad your prollem was as easily solved as putting on the back cover :D

i also agree with D-U-R-X about ice cold sammich. it is a wonderful rom, fluid, smooth and fast. wish such a nice rom was available for the rezound and thunderbolt!

if youre a sense fan,ice cold may not be your cup of tea(being an AOSP rom),but if you dont like sense,or are at least indifferent to it,defiantely give it a shot!

Ok I have downloaded IceColdSandwich-8.3.AOKP-signed.zip now how do i install this rom onto my device i dont want any mistakes this time!
I agree ICS is great i see it on my partners Smasung Galaxy S3 and am tempted away from my main phone which is a Iphone.

1. Download the file to your PC and then put it on the root of your SD card (just on the SD card, not in any folders).

2. Reboot in to recovery (this will most likely be ClockWorkMod - a custom recovery where you can make backups and flash ROMs and other stuff).

3. Make a backup of your current settings (this is done using the volume keys to navigate the menus and the power key to select - you only need to push the power key in, don't need to hold it down) and let it do it's thing. You're always best making a backup - it can save you if anything goes wrong! :)

4. Perform wipes (again, by using volume/power keys)... you should do a cache wipe and factory reset/data wipes (still in ClockWorkMod).

5. Select install Zip from SD and then using the volume keys navigate until you find the IceColdSandwich zip - select it and let it do it's thing.

6. Reboot (using the reboot now option in ClockWorkMod)

7. Enjoy your new ROM.

Please note that this was all done from memory and some of the options may be called something a little different. If in doubt, DO NOT PROCEED... post here and we will help.

The first time you try to boot up after exiting ClockWorkMod, do not be alarmed if you get a bootloop... just pull the battery, count to 10 and turn on again... it should all be fine!! :)

ok I get as far as apply update from sd card and i get the following
--install/sdcard...
finding updatepackage...
opening update package...
verifying update package
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
installation aborted.

is this a problem with the file?
i will download it again just in case but your input would be apriciated

Right... where are you downloading it from? Is there an MD5 number metioned where you get it from (it would usually say on the website you get it from "MD5 sum = XXXXX" where XXXXX = a load (maybe 20 numbers in total) of numbers)?

If you attempt to boot back in to the phone as it was before, it may not work, as you've preformed wipes... if that is the case, perform wipes again and head to restore/backup and do a restore of the backup you made before starting to try and flash the new ROM :)
