DHD v Iphone

The apps are certainly higher quality on iOS devices, but as an ex-iPhone owner I think the sheer flexibility and freedom on Android edges it out.

One thing I've noticed after owning a DHD for a few weeks now, is that when I go back and look and someone's iPhone the screen looks tiny!
 
Same here with iPad 1 and DHD

I had the iPhone4, never thought i would be swayed away from it until getting this upgrade.... what a difference... Just the though of not having to mess around with jailbreaking every time crapple decide to release an update... And now developers releasing updates only for the newest IOS pissed me off forcing you to update all the time...

I can live without the front facing camera, never used it
Video chat.. who really does.. not many...

Customisation... Well see the video on SPB Shell 3D for a taster
Now, to carry a spare battery A+++
Now, to carry a spare Micro-SD A+++
Still has Installous like store (applanet)

Every APP i had on the iPhone4 i managed to find/obtain a same/better alternative on the android market.

What more can I say.... oh, yes... NORMAL SIM CARD.... instead of crapples idea of the FUTURE micro-sim... gotta laugh at that.

It entirely depends on what you what you want (or need) the phone to do.

Well, not much. There are some basic functional goodies like widgets, better synching with Google Calendar (and the Google cloud in general) and the full internet experience with flash - in practice this makes virtually no difference when simply browsing.

There is the killer feature (for me, anyway) which is the ability to send and receive files via bluetooth.

You'll notice that so far only one person posting has offered any other concrete examples of where the DHD is better aside from customization:

And in the case of video quality this is well known not to be the case. The iPhone4 video capture is much better. In the case of stills photography the DHD can, with the right conditions and set up, produce excellent results BUT for point-and-click photos the iPhone4 will produce consistently better results.

Ergo if multimedia capture is important to you (especially video) the DHD may not be the phone for you.

You forgot to ask the important corollary question: "What can the iPhone 4 do that the DHD can't?" This is just as important a question, right?

The iPhone4 offers the ability to seamlessly synch with a Mac. This may be of no consequence to you. In that case you can ignore this aspect.

The major issue is with apps (especially games). Even Google make better apps for iOS than they do for Android.

And it goes without saying that if you want to play a wide variety of quality games on your phone - Android is not for you, period.

Fanboys on both sides have a hard time dealing with the fact that both of these phones are awesome. I hate to generalize in the following way but this may help you make up your mind: if you are a casual, non-tech minded phone user then maybe, maybe an iPhone4 is the answer. If you like tinkering about with tech stuff and don't mind (or enjoy) getting stuck into customization and even rooting (in order to get the best out of your device) then maybe, maybe Android is for you.

Oh and one final thing - if you have no investment whatsoever in the Google Cloud (gmail, calendar, docs etc) then Android loses its raison d'

This is one of the most ridiculous things I have read on this forum (and that takes some doing).

The only possible explanation is that you sought out the worst apps for your iPhone4 to start with.
 
Being able to create, delete, move, copy etc files & folders on the phone (android in general), as opposed to connecting to itunes for every little thing.

I can download whatever files I like off the internet.

Flash.

Seen as regular usb storage in windows - easy.

& is it still the case that an iphone can only be associated with 5 itunes accounts? (& theoretically connect to only 5 different pcs)

There are many apps on the market that wouldn't even get a sniff at the app store. I'm not saying these apps are good or bad, i'm simply saying the option is there, torrent clients for example.

I believe the iphone is better at what it does, it just doesn't do as much.
I'm quite confident that i won't go back to apple phones... maybe when HTML 5 is more widely implemented I'll have a look.
 
The apps i found for the iphone when i had it did what i needed it to do... i do a lot of travelling to customers at one app had a lot of records in it.. thankfully all imported perfect to dhd.

my comparison to a particular app will be different to someone else, why, because everyone has different views and opinions to what is good and bad, hence my opinion.

When i had the iphone, android was not as popular as it is now, and having the increased market which is still way behind the iphone by the way, i found the whole experience of android better than ios in my opinion.

And, i sought worst apps... lets see
in the ipa folder i have 20,550 apps/games (336Gb)
in epub books folder i have 1,578 ibooks (2.9Gb)
mp4 movie folder i have 231 movies
Avi movie folder i have 1,700 movies
Mp3 Albums i have over 20,000

i would say not bad collection during the time i had the iphone.

imho the iphone is probably better at the basics, calls, text, camera, video etc

but the DHD is the closest thing to an "all in one" device out there, i have a DHD therefore i don't need an mp3 player, i don't need a sat nav, i don't need a tablet, i don't need a psp & i don't need an in car dvd player

Widehead, you truly like to argue, as do I.

I've found, that if you google a little, instead of heading straight to the Market, you can and will find the same or better apps than available to iPhone. You need to remember that there are a lot more Android apps than iPhone, and a lot more free apps. If you go straight to the Market then, yeah, the first 10 apps you download will be crap, but also FREE.

If you're going to compare Android free apps with iPhones paid apps, then I guess you're right, Widehead. Otherwise I think you need to re familiarise yourself with the current Market and see what's now there.

Really? Free turn by turn voice nav? Free PSP emulator? Free DivX decoder? OMG, I take back what I said, iPhone might actually be comparable to the DHD... :p

i think the two major points for me having an android phone and not apple is:

1. Android plays flash
2. Android has widgets!

Point 2 being the major thing for me. I love the fact that on my android i can see things instantly without having to open an application. I can have my messages widget open, i can have my weather app running, anything i want basically.

With the iphone you cant have this, all you get is a screen full of icons. Yeah sure they can multitask now, but that still requires you to click on a button and select what you want to see.

I know apple stay away from widgets due to battery issues, and as we know our phones have many battery issues, but thats just a case of fiddling around with the settings. At the end of the day both iphones and Android phones get the same amount of battery power, that being a day or 2 at most.

The only issue i find with android is that there are so many different manufacturers of Android phones (HTC, Samsung, Sony, Motorola, etc) that its hard to find one device that's stable and has regular good updates. The advantages with Apple is that you know everything comes from the one place. However, many iphone owners complain about how crap and disruptive the iphone updates tend to be.

The day apple release an OS that allows for widgets i will probably consider getting one since the quality of their devices do tend to seem better than HTC in all honesty. For now though im sticking with Android and HTC.
 
Yeah, big up the Widgets.
Use em on my lock screen for all sorts; football widget, sms-email-calls widget, news widget, network data quota widget, music player info & play buttons, calendar widget...
All I need to do is press one button & all that is there.

IPhone - press home button>swipe unlock>>enter pin>find app.
 
The iPhone 4 does do everything better and the quality of the apps and the UI is better and smoother... It just doesn't do as much as Android. But Android still does everything well and that's why I like Android better because you can really make it your own and it works very well :)
