Help dial phone numbers from web pages on Galaxy s3

klb72

Lurker
I am loving my new Galaxy S3, but I can't click on a phone number on a webpage or email to go directly to the phone and call the number. I could do this on my S1. Is there something I am missing?

it might be a feature within the s3 to prevent malware phishing scams, or it might be a setting in the browser that isnt turned on. i would check your browser settings for something to that nature, its a long shot, but that could be the culprit, or it might be the default browser you are using

Welcome to Android forums!:)
I have moved this thread to the Galaxy S3 forum, so that others with the same phone can post their experiences and hopefully help with your issue.

Isn't that data picking? The same reason Apple sued HTC over this past few weeks and stopped the import of the One X.
I could be wrong though.
I have a DX and the picking of data really depends a lot on the webpage I visit. I think HTC was allowed to import by changing the method of data picking from a touch to a long press that brings up a menu. Try touching the phone number for a second or two instead of a tap.

Ding ding, we have a winner...

Thats what got the HTC phones stopped in the US recently.. all due to the great work of Apple

Chrome seems to support this, but Gmail doesn't.

If I remember rightly there's a uniform way of doing this using links like so:

Call me

So it's probably that some websites implement this and others don't. Mobile sites are more likely to support tel links than desktop sites.

Yeah, I doubt this has anything to do with Apple. In my experience, it works on some websites/apps and not others. 'Course, I could be wrong.

hi guys I know this post is old but it's the only 1 I found on the subject. you definitely can't 1 click phone numbers from web sites with the galaxy s 3 whether using chrome or other browser has anyone found a solution to this?

Not sure why you can't. I just tested it and it works fine using Dolphin Browser.

I do it all the time with just the native browser. Just today I called LOWES to see if they had any mattresses. I was able to call their number from Google search. I believe it also depends on how the website is setup as the phone number needs to be in a link format.

Nope...it doesn't work.

-If you are browsing a website setup for browsing on mobile phone / mobile site then yes the phone number links work.
- If you click on the "call" link from google search engine results that works fine too.

BUT - if you go to a normal, non mobile optimised website and try to click a phoen number from there it will not work...and it doesn't matter if you are using the standard browser or Chrome. Same problem.

It's not the website's fault either coz you can try doing exactly the same thing on the same website with an iPhone, Sony Xperia, etc and it will work fine...you hold your finger on the number for a second or two and it dials it straight up.

Is there anything that can be downloaded to enable the Galaxy S3 to do this?

Oh man, i peed my bed too just lastnight lol... so embarasing eh :p

yet that is the exact website where it works using iPhone, sony Xperia, etc... think the HTC might be like the S3 in that the phone numbers don't show as links.

Anyway, it appears no solution has been found ...

It still works for me. I was on the Attorney General website (which is not a mobile version as far as I can tell) and was able to click an 866 number. It was not a link and it called right away.

This is the site: http://www.attorneygeneral.jus.gov.on.ca/english/
