Help "Dialer" using 1/3 battery life

Newbie
I know the standard battery has very short life, it doesnt last me 1 full day. But I have been noticing the "Dialer" app using 25-35% of my battery, and today saw that it used 29% when I didnt make a single call nor text message all day long! so why is the Dialer even active talking up cycles? I have a task kill and never see it as an active process, and I dont have it on the task killer "ignore" list to not be killed. I can only assume it is something that permanently runs in the hidden background, or else domer installed app is actually activating it at pre-set intervals? Is there maybe another better app I can replace with the Dialer and then disable the Dialer?

Do you have the Evo 4g? Just asking, as your info states otherwise.:)
Are you rooted or stock?
Do you recall downloading any app that has affected your battery life/dialer usage?

Sprint HTC Evo 4G, just got it 2 weeks ago, forgot to update my details. not rooted. I have been adding a few apps and widgets since I got the phone, dont remember one where suddenly the battery/dialer usage was affected (or obviously I wouldnt be asking here lol). as far as I have been watching the battery usage, almost since day one, the dialer has been eating up almost 1/3 whether I make calls.texts or not. basically asking is this normal for other ppl, and if perhaps another dialer app wouild be better.

I do have Go Dialer installed as of now, and the defaulr dialer disabled (hoping it wont adversely affect anything) so will see how that goes

Get rid of the task killer. It causes more trouble than without it. Plus, Android does a good job of self managing the tasks/apps.

Go Dialer is a good dialer. Another option is exDialer.

well I have Dialer actually disabled (settings/applications/manage applications) and re-booted phone to shut down all apps. after about an hour, I looked this morning and surprise Dialer had taken 19% of battery life. how is that even possible for a disabled app to do that?

I'm not quite sure how you disabled the stock dialer without being rooted.
In menu/settings/manage applications?--there is a force stop setting but it will restart by itself if needed. Is that what you did?
I dont think the dialer should use any battery if it is not running.
Perhaps the dialer has a wakelock issue?

menu/ settings/ applications/ manage applications/ ALL tab/ Dialer/

there is a button ne=xt to Force Stoop for Enable/Disable. Also when looking at the application list, there is a tag "disabled" next to the Dialer title

what would be a "Wakelock Issue" and how would I verify that and then deal with that?

Kinda off topic, but I dont have that enable/disable option
